Hi

I have not fitted a water softener for quite a while and I wondered what everyone thought. I have seen the Harvey water softeners, does anyone have any knowledge of these ?

It would be installed in a domestic 4 bedroomed house currently occupied by 3 people. Any other details please let me know.

any advice on the best system or manufacturer would be really helpful

many thanks

Paul

There is much debate as to the efficacy of water softeners. The only ones that are tried and tested are the base softeners.

Tom, have you seen any news as to the outlawing of this type? I'd be eager to learn why. Maybe it's due to the salt's disposal into incorrectly installed drainage going to surface water systems and destroying bio-systems or destroying good bacteria in storage reservoirs?
I bet the most probable reason is the amount of water wasted in the regeneration process. Thoughts anyone?

Sure. I just wondered whether you were recondite on the matter and had any valuable insider filth on the subject :)
Ok, Google is 'my friend'. Cheers

From what I can gather it's most likely to happen. In fact it's unavoidable. By account it takes approx an extra 6,000 litres per year to regenerate the zeolites. And automatically too. So it's for reasons previously mentioned. California has expressed concerns about a decade ago, perhaps longer, and veritably so. I also checked out Veolia's site and they reckon about 5-10% of households have these softeners. (Not a believer in statistics but the amount of wasted wholesome water is staggering). The upshot is damage to the environment alongside waste.
Exposure is necessary on all manners of sustainable procedures in our 'throw-n-go' attitudes to things. What we do does have an impact on others
