Many years ago, I was an electrician with the electricity board, and got called out one evening to attend to "Lights dimming and customer getting shocks from electric shower - installed today". When I got there, I couldn't believe what I found...
The customer's 'friend' had wired a shower for them earlier that day - a 240V washing machine pump with a metal on/off switch fitted, and wired in 2-core flex from the lighting circuit, in series with the landing light. The pump had a rubber hose on the inlet, and a rubber hose and spray rose on the outlet. The method of operation was that the customer sat in the bath holding the pump, dipped the inlet hose in the bathwater, switched on the pump, and got a face-full of water. Couldn't understand why he was getting a shock and the lights were dimming...
I kid you not.
