Kev the gas

It is the time of year again, when Im pestered out on the road and at home from Yellow pages.

I always try and remember to ask where the enquiry comes from but normally to busy to ask.

In the old days I used to pay about £ 120 to be in the Corgi section for a basic advert, they now want £ 227 plus vat.

My question is if you needed a specialist job doing, without knowing a friend :-

Would you look in the yellow pages??

Kev.

Less and less people are looking in Yellow Pages as their first search for anything (not just plumbing) these days. When did you last look? Are you looking less now? When you need someone (garage, florist, type of shop, etc) where do you look first? Also Yellow Pages is much smaller than it used to be.

I've got a free single line entry (I think) for next year. Last year I tried a free and three other entries for £150'ish. Not a sausage.

Some people have much better luck though - possibly depends on the area you live in.

Yellow pages and Thompson local have well past their sell by date,if you do not believe me,take a look down the local tip a week or so after they have been delivered to homes,it will be full of them

imho

i had a large add' cost me over £1,500. i ran it for a year and got 3 calls from it non turned any cash.
the year after i pulled it i got 4 calls and did an emergency job last new years eve for £120. was it worth it?.

i am not sure if they still do the free line advert but if they do, you will find to get more calls for no outlay.imo anyways.

apart from that, i dont see how people can even read it tbh. therefore they have cut their own throat and made it worthless. what they needed to do is cut the cost by half and double its size, so they pay someone millions and get it wrong//?????????????????

my advert in the yellow pages brought me in a lot of work. i think it depends on the area and your placing in the pages. dont bother with thompson that is pants. the thing with yellow pages now is that all the free listings go to the back of the book and are in alphabetical order along with all other trades etc so they are now useless. i also think your advert has to stand out from all the rest as there can be quite a few plumbers in there and that can be expensive . like any advertising its a risk you may get smething you may get knack all

I've found the local small free papers to be best. Parish mags and similar.

i would not use at all , few years back when i moved i nearly used them just to get my name put about. i never signed anything just got a copy of the art work and sent it back saying not right etc. next thing its in the mag with wrong number and there invoicing me.

i never paid and let the soilicitor deal with it. never heard from them again

I don't use the Yellow pages as such, I'm on Yell.com though. Ive had a lot of work through it as most people search online using their phone or computer. Its probably down to the area as someone has said previously. When I started out I paid a lot of money to be in the yellow pages and got hee-haw. I also experienced a lot of elderly folk who used the yellow pages, but it was usually the same one from years back! My advertising is mostly online nowadays.
