MIs missing... again! What to do?

Went to service a gas fire and the customer didn't have the MIs. Not a problem, I can try and look it up online, except that the data badge was so old and black, all the markings had gone. I couldn't tell if the fire was above or below 7kW, so if it needed ventilation or not. What would you have...

    Threaded steel pipes

I worked on a light commercial installation recently and worked on threaded steel pipes for the first time. How do you break into it? One length of pipe with joints at either end need to rotate in opposite direction at each end to get undone! I was lucky in that there was a sort of coupling...

What do you think of this flexible gas hob connector?

Why not, if it's been specifically designed for gas hobs?

    Gas appliances manuals

Am I the only one struggling to find appliances' manuals online? I know it's hard enough with cookers and old gas fires but I've just been unable to find the manual for an Ideal Exclusive. I thought I had found it but it turns out the GC number was different. Given the law says "refer to MI"...

How to make builder's opening smaller

I guess you fix it to the surface with screws and fill any gaps on the front with mortar or fire cement?

How to make builder's opening smaller

I've got an inset fire which is slightly too big for the opening - the seals can't press against the front. How can I reduce the opening by a couple of cm either side? I think just mortar/fire cement won't be strong enough as the seals will be pressing against it. The mortar may crack too...

One burner on gas hob not working

Gas engineers can't be responsible for tenants' behaviour. What if tenants decide to service their boiler themselves?

One burner on gas hob not working

It's not doing anything, won't light up due to no gas.

How would you classify this for a LL cert?
