Rich, if the guy had no intention of bricking up these holes and making good afterwards, this should have been made 100% clear to your m-i-l from the off and be noted on his quote or else the guy is seriously remiss.
If he hasn't, I would say that he is responsible for this and I think he could...
Hello.
Trying to work out options for my bro's top-floor flat which has truly pants mains pressure and flow. I estimate it (not actually measured, but from my recollection) to be something like 5lpm and well under 1 bar pressure - the kitchen cold is a 'fast trickle' at best, and the CWS takes...
It would certainly help, Rich, if someone could monitor what the pressure is doing as the boiler heats up - that would be a good indication.
But I understand your mum would find this difficult.
What make and model of combi is it? (Not that I'm thinking that'll help...!)
Hi Shaun.
Many thanks for your reply.
Not actually measured, but it's very poor - I'd estimate around 5lpm and well under 1 bar pressure. The kitchen sink is a 'fast trickle' at best and the CWS takes ages to refill.
Since these Grundfos pumps have the requirement of needing to pump 'upwards'...
Bro had a couple of these fitted last year to boost the hot and cold gravity flows in his flat. They were chosen to be a gentle boost as they add a very useful 0.5 to 0.75 extra bar (to a gravity system which is barely 0.2 bar), and are very quiet in use.
They worked a treat, although the cold...
Blimey, BlockABoots - two pages to get the answer you were after. And you basically worked it out for yourself...
(You were initially confused by that 'neutral' on the diagram seemingly connected to 'B'. But if you look at the diagram again, you'll see that there's a rectangular 'block' on that...
(I would have thought an alternative to raising the boiler - in theory at least - would be to lower the straight length's boiler end by an inch or so, and thereby tweaking very slightly the overall 'fall' of the whole length, and then rotating that elbow to suit the angle would also have worked...
That looks like a result!
You know what, I almost mentioned - after seeing your last photo in your post #24 - that the bottom collar on that flue immediately above the boiler was not sitting straight - you can see an uneven gap under it - and I wondered if that flue was being forced to that...
I don't know what the leaky bit ist, but I'd love to know. My guess, too, would be the connection to the boiler, or one of these first bends. And, yes, in theory only that part would need replacing - a dead easy and dead cheap job.
I must be missing something, tho' - the only other conclusion...
The actual flue run looks ok, and there's straight and consistent slope there.
The flue as it comes out the boiler does, however, have an extra elbow to 'crank' the flue away from the back wall a bit presumably to avoid something? Elbows certainly don't help flow, but I presume this was taken...
What a nightmare :-(
You have confirmed yourself that the flue run isn't excessive, so I'm still flummoxed as to why the issue "is a problem waiting to happen" even if the flue were redone.
I just don;t get that - it doesn't make sense to me.
It doesn't matter how many joints there are in a...
Hi Lili.
I'm confused by some - well, a lot - of what you've said in your first post.
The GlowWorm was installed in 2012 (so it's only 5 years old) and it initially went faulty - due to an incorrect installation - in 2015?
Why wasn't the original installer taken to task about this? You had a...
I understand that, certainly with the common Honeywell V4073A 3-porter, it defaults to the DHW position if there's no power - ie the spring will return it to that position.
If your Drayton is the same, and you turned on the power after replacing it and then switched for HW, the motor shouldn't...
Thanks Davey. Sounds like a good 'last resort' if needed.
The original 'stat is this one:
which shows a short, relatively wide phial, and a panel fixing that uses a nut - tho' that part can always be easily modified on a replacement.
I've come across this Worcester oil boiler item...
Thanks.
Yes, I've been looking at what's available, and the fitting points you mention make sense.
Darn - I wish I was where the boiler is for a look-see. My bro has already had a plumber out, but he seemed reluctant to try and source an alternative himself.
If I can't find the dims of the...
Hi Best.
Many thanks for that really helpful post (and for Shaun for pointing you here :-) )
I'll suggest to my bro he tries to get a plumber who's willing to measure up the existing one and then he - or my bro - can start searching.
I would be astonished if there wasn't a suitable...
Hi all.
Yes, this is an old boiler, and is due to be replaced next year when an extension is being built and the boiler will be relocated in to there. Meanwhile it's running well :-)
Except there's been a few occasions when the water has kettled, gurgled and seemingly 'boiled' - the ball float...
