Thermal Store. Anyone ran heated towel rails off an UFH manifold?

When you say running all heating at lower temp I assume you've got UFH with some towel rails? Towels would take longer to dry at the lower temps. Is the rail just used for towels or is it helping to heat the bathroom?

    Dodgy oil tanks

Had a job at a secondary school some years back, new boilers and converting to gas. The school was on a hillside and the undercroft below the main building had the boiler room and a 15000 litre or so tank off an old railway wagon. Reckon it had been put in when the school was built and no way...

Newbie help - water UFH Anti cycle with Valiant ecotech 831

When you say he CH and UFH work independently of each other, I take it you can just run the boiler to do the UFH? Does it happen when running the CH as well? I think the boiler trying to cope with the small UFH load might be the problem.

    best eco heating syem

If you're looking at using a heat pump with rads the CoP will suck due to the higher temps needed unless you fill your walls with massive rads to take the lower temps :-) Best stick with LPG and put your money into improving the insulation.

Shut off valve for hot water

Unvented HWS 101: :smile5: Sounds like one plumber is a bit old skool remembering the days of tank fed cylinders when the HWS outlet also acted as vent/expansion and it was a big no-no to shut them off. Assuming the cylinder has been installed correctly any expansion should be taken up by...

    Automatic Air Vents work?

Trouble with that arrangement is the pipe is still 1/3 full of air. Best to have a square tee with AAV on top if you can do it.

    Heating problems

Could do with getting the wiring checked. Could be a dodgy connection which drops out under certain conditions.

    Carbon Monoxide Flue Cap

Sounds like dodgy thermostat on the boiler. Nothing to do with flue caps!

what you been up to tonight......

Walking on Dartmoor. Super-mega-hot choccy with all the trimmings at Fox Tor Cafe in Princetown afterwards! ;) Evening: feet up in front of roaring wood stove while it's lashing down outside.

Radiators at the end of loop not working.

So, if the lockshield on the flow and TRV on the flow both give trickles when opened it sounds like a blocked flow pipe, assuming the same pipe serves both rads. Could you hook up a hose off the mains to the flow somewhere and hopefully blast it clear?

    R.I.P. Bridport plumbing company...

I heard there's already another company set up and about 40 of the APC lads have been taken on. The problem they'll have is some folks like the local authorities insist on them trading for so many years before giving them any work or contracts, and if suppliers have been caught by the old co...

how to remove this TRV ?

Isn't there a grub screw as well? Usually just rotate the black lock nut to slacken the grippy bits then you should be able to unclip/pull the head away from the body.

New central heating advice full new system

Depending on age of the property, rule of thumb suggests about 4BTU/cu.ft or about 40W/cu.m in each room. That would probably mean your rads will be a little bit oversized if you don't want to go for full heat loss calcs but at least you can always turn them down! Sizing systems on 20C...

    Boiler flue stains

Sounds like acidic condensate. What fuel are you using? Sudden thought, does the boiler have a condensate trap and outlet and if so should/does the flue slope back so any condense runs back into the boiler and out the trap instead of dripping outside?

    Radiator Plumbing Puzzle

Modern rads don't like single pipe systems as they're too high resistance to get a flow through! If it's being used as a bypass I'd put in a proper auto bypass valve elsewhere and chop the link under the rad, or at least stick in a ballofix to shut it off.

    Is 22mm boiler output enough?!

59k works out about 0.2 l/s flow rate, a bit high for 22mm but would depend on length of pipe taking the full amount and size of pump. Personally I'd increase to 28mm off the boiler until the tee to upstairs. Lower velocity means less noise.

We recommend City Plumbing Supplies, BES, and Plumbing Superstore for all plumbing supplies.
