Gate Valves turning - or are they balls?

When I installed a Fernox Boiler Buddy filter for my brother, I made sure I fitted those Pegler pump valves. Boiler Buddies fit between two gate valves the same as a pump would. I knew I would be relying on those valves regularly to isolate so that the BB can be removed for cleaning. They turn...

    Best jointing compound ??

Anyone used this stuff? Looks like you can just spread it on a thread and do up the joint. No hemp or PTFE. Tru Blu Pipe Thread Sealant 118ml

    Combimate leaking after replacing crystals

I'm not sure I would use silicone grease on the seal for these. May encourage the seal to slip out of place as tightened. I always make sure that the Perspex bowl and the area where the rubber seal is are spotlessly clean. A stray fragment of Siliphos ball/crystal could cause it not to seal at...

    Best jointing compound ??

Thought it was just me. Used to get half way through tub of BW, then it went hard. Gave up on it. Fernox seems better.

    Answers on a postcard?

Don't know why they didn't go straight in with one of these. Washing Machine Drain-Out Kit But then, I don't suppose it would have had a chance of winning the Turner Prize like the one in the op.

Gas meter capped - can I remove boiler?

Why doesn't the op say what the boiler make and model is, then others on here can say whether it contains asbestos? Very unlikely for a boiler under 20 years old. I think there is overkill of the rule book. Then the boiler can be removed from the wall by the op if he wishes. Zero danger if the...

    Radiator leak pouring everywhere

What's wrong with the old bracket? If it's just split, get someone local with a welder to repair it. Won't notice when it's behind the rad. Nobody fixes anything any more!

Are isolating valves necessary on cw tank & HWC?

Sounds like there are more things to worry about on this job than some isolation nalves.

    Expired flux keep it bin

Templars Telux (grease based) for me. Just have to make sure you clean both pipe and inside fitting, as it's not self cleaning. Though for some reason, Laco seems to work better on solder ring if I use that type of fitting. Don't know why.

Told boiler needs a new expansion vessel along with pressure relief valve - how much should this be?

I've got the same boiler, and had the same problem. Wouldn't recommend taking a 15 year old boiler off the wall, especially as the flue may be damaged and you would need to pay for another. If you can, fit an external vessel. 30 quid for the vessel from Toolstation, plus a bit of pipe and...
