Thanks to all for your help. Seems evenly split between boiler's connection and the spur. Though I don't fully understand Reg's advice. Think he may be referring to the receiver's switching wires, not the receiver's mains supply wires.
Will do what seems easier when I get the tools out at the...
My combi doesn't have a room stat, so I am going to install a wireless one. When I install the stat's receiver next to boiler, what is good practice/OK when connecting receiver to 240V mains? -
A) Connect to the electrical block inside boiler's electrics where boiler's 240V mains supply is...
Thanks Howsie.
The reason I ask is because if it's only one outlet for both, when I start feeding the rods up from the insp. chamber, how can I be sure it goes up the right branch? How do I make sure the rods don't branch off to the bottom of the stack, and not down the pipe to the b/e gully...
I've got to visit my mum at the weekend, as the back entry gully outside her kitchen door is backing up through the metal grate. The kitchen sink drains into it. I had a quick look last weekend, and the gully itself is clear, and running water from a hose into it causes it to back up after a...
Yes, this is my one big worry, a leak where the supply pipe joins to the thread on outside of tank. Hopefully should be able to get a good grip on valve body before turning nut to split the valve.
All I can then do when all back together and working, is get my hand down the outside of the tank...
The F&E tank in my mums loft is dripping through overflow. It's fitted with old type Portsmouth/part1 ballcock. I would usually replace the whole valve, however the tank is in a nightmare position. It's high up on a platform, just under the roof tiles. The cold water tank is in front of the F&E...
Thanks for the replies.
The measuring cone only seems to be available in imperial. Would that be OK for most applications?
Will petroleum jelly affect o rings?
I recently removed the DHW plate hex on my Vaillant Turbomax to descale it. The o rings were fine, so I just petrol. jellied them and reused.
It did occur to me that if I wanted to replace them, I have large selection boxes of metric and imperial o rings. In the absence of the manufacturer's...
Thanks very much. Yes, that makes sense. Didn't consider that it might catch on the o ring. Clips in last is the method I used anyhow. Didn't have any problems with these connections. Just a slight weep on the nut and fibre washer one. Little tighter and all OK.
Thanks again.
This is just a quick question. Today I have removed the DHW plate hex on my Valliant Turbomax. One pipe to the hex was held on with a nut and had a 1/2" fibre washer. The other 3 connections had wire clips. All is ok, and the hw is now scalding after a good cleaning of the hex.
I'm unsure how...
Once again, thanks for your replies.
Chris Watkins>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I have been to the chemist's and got some Citric Acid Monohydrate - for culinary use, in 50 gram bag. Hope this is the right stuff? Will dilute the whole lot in hot water and try my luck.
If the primary side is choked with...
Thanks for all your replies. Can I really get a new face on Ebay for £50? Cheaper than surgery, as I ain't no oil painting.
If it is the primaries blocked with rust particles, will the citric acid clear these. Or, would it need something stronger?
Finally managed to locate a supplier of Spirit Of Salts, and I now have a small bottle of it. I want to remove the limescale from the hw side of my Turbomax's plate heat exchanger. Judging by the luke warm water out of the hot taps, it must be badly scaled.
Anyhow, do I use the S O S neet, or...
You know the situation. Go to change a bottom entry Float valve, turn water off, flush bog, but there's always a few inches of water left in the bottom of the cistern. Similar with loft tanks, but easier to clear the last bit of water with them.
What I really need is a small hand pump to get...
