Flow gauges for central heating pipe work

Back to the original premise! Lets say you’ve just installed a new boiler. Is the pump working? Is it circulating around the byepass or the whole heating circuit? With a gauge on the flow and return you can see the real time pressure loss across the circuit. If it is pumping around the byepass...

Flow gauges for central heating pipe work

your measuring mas In litres per min we’re measuring mass over time, the 5 litres hasn’t disappeared. The water is moving slower due to increased frictional resistance.... I suppose it’s still in the pipe? How about if a hose pipe is 50m long? Would you still get the same performance as if...

Flow gauges for central heating pipe work

An update on this; I recently installed an S plan at home. I fitted a 0-2 bar pressure gauge straight after the pump and another on the return near the boiler. You can indeed see the pressure difference on the gauges when the central heating is running. As the gauges are in the loft and the...

    Pop-up waste on bidet confusion

They have fitted the waste and taps then stuck the bidet to the floor with silicone. The water pipes and waste pipes are likely on a flexible connection. Switch the water off, test the bidet to make sure its off then cut the silicone with a stanley knife, rock the bidet left and right and if...

looking to change career. is this expensive course is worth the price?

Just like electrician courses these companies make alot of money selling 6 week courses. They will tell you how its a license to print money and the skys the limit. What they wont tell you is no one will hire you without on the job experience and if they do you will be on minimum wage as an...

    System Boiler advice please..

Run a mile from Bg they charge the earth and are over rated, get a couple of quotes from local heating engineers, or ideally a recommendation from a friend or family member.

Water Not staying hot for long with Tempest Cylinder 250L

Generally hot water cylinders are heated for an hour or two morning and night. So I would start by adding another programme for 4-6pm and go from there. Don't forget the cold water temperature is now cooler this time of year so the cylinder will take longer to heat up and lose its heat quicker...

Problems with 2 x new rads not heating up.

Perhaps the valves are faulty? Maybe try taking the new radiators off leaving the closed valves, then open the valves whilst connected to some hose pipe to flush through and ensure you have a good flow, from both valves/ I'd also be looking at the colour of the water, if it was flushed last year...

Problems with 2 x new rads not heating up.

Possibly piped up wrong? 2 flows and 2 returns, so no circuit? By that I mean you should have a flow and a return to each rad and instead you have 2 flows and 2 returns. Seen it done before

When is Central Heating Pump supposed to be on?

Most modern boilers have a "pump overrun" which runs the pump to cool the boiler after use. Generally the boiler will keep the pump running for around 5-10 mins after use.

VENTED central heating system - water circulating through header tank

The 15mm expansion pipe does sound wrong, however pumping over is usually a symptom of a blockage in the heating pipe work, either due to sludge or air. Also reducing the size of the pipe would increase the frictional resistance not decrease it. Think of it this way, water takes the path of...

    Grohe Cistern issue

There may be tiny "blebs" in the seal, almost like little bubbles you can buy replacement seals or the whole cartrdge from toiletspares.co.uk

Banging pipes when not drawing water

I've solved this for a few customers by fitting a shock arrestor, which is essentially a tiny expansion vessel fitted on the cold supply pipe work. I think the problem occurs on smaller systems where water hammer can not be taken up in the volume of the pipe work. Sometimes due to a non return...

Hot water not up to temperature

Your mains cold water temperature has dropped due to the time of year. Your 24 kw boiler can only operate at a maximum of 9.8 litres per min at 35 degree temperature rise. So the colder the water coming in the slower flow. If your mains water flow rate is substantially higher than 10 litres a...

    Faulty new Honeywell valve?

No voltage on the white, or room stat, ch programmer etc gray is permenant live if I remember right? Its mid position so turns to open heating when there's demand. The additional 2 port is wired into the cylinder stat to provide another interlock for the unvented cylinder Not there at the the...

    Faulty new Honeywell valve?

Quickness! Customer just wanted a valve, but now looking at repiping some of the rads so yeah I’ll convert to s plan too

    Faulty new Honeywell valve?

Yep drain down and full valve 1568829612 Also I blew down the old valve, whilst it was out and it did pass a little bit then I manually closed it and it didn’t pass.... maybe reverse circulation is forcing it open?

    Faulty new Honeywell valve?

Hi guys just exploring a possibility I’ve replaced a 3 port valve and it’s passing into the heating circuit when hot water is on. Could an electrical fault cause this problem? There is no call for heat on the heating circuit, proved with my multimeter. The heating pipe work next to the valve...

    Gas in flats

Vertical gas riser as described in the regs / corgi book... however the fact I said corgi tells you its 10 years at least since I was involved in gas in flats! I too am curious to hear gas safes take on it

    Gas in flats

Think about gas pipes in voids and ventilation of said void. You also need an ecv at the point the gas enters the flat. I don’t think you can run in someone else’s property. The blocks of flats I worked on years ago always went for external runs as it was cheaper than a riser. Remember all that...
