    Mixing metals on compression fittings

PTFE over the olives works for me, cleaner than paste & less likelihood of it going into the system.

    Electric Boiler Installation: -

It is far more efficient that way & you can reduce to kW loading by heating the domestic hot water overnight (possible using off-peak)

    Connectors for potable water

Unfortunately nor do most people, they naively think that just because it is on sale in this country it can be used.

Removal of radiator with danfoss cap at end

If they you have a TRV's does it have a '0' which is off if just '*' which is just frost it is best to remove the head.

    Connectors for potable water

https://www.NoLinkingToThis/p/hose-15mm-x-m10mm-x-300mm-2-pack/66361 If the new taps don't come with suitable hoses then just buy a new pair such as these with a 15mm compression joint to connect to the copper pipes under the old taps once you cut & remove them. (the ones in the link don't seem to...

    Electric Boiler Installation: -

Do you think they have any idea of the running costs of such a system at 13p per kW/h ? (Combi) instantaneous hot water is not an option as it requires more energy than the electrical cables can practically supply. In answer to your question yes the loading is the same for both fuels, so you...

    Changing old stop tap

The coupling is either a VJ junior or more likely a George Fisher multi fit coupling the being used as a for runner of the LeadLoc's now available. The Stop valve is a more modern type with that style of handle. So you should be OK with new 1/2" LeadLoc to 22mm copper tube & replace the stop...

    Milwaukee pipe cutter.

The trick is gentle pressure, first on the blade until a groove / track is formed all the way round but also by applying it towards the longer side of the tube being cut with the palm of your hand, as you turn it around. Like all these things it takes a bit of practice, I didn't want to show...

Everything !! including 10mm if I have to. What do you use for 35mm ??

    Milwaukee pipe cutter.

Still the best in the right hands IMHO, 15 to 42mm adjustment in seconds, certainly quicker than hunting for each slice, de-burring of each cut quickly (if you get it the habit). Far better control of the cut, I can take less than 5mm off if required, try doing that with your slices !! & a...

How do I know if cylinder can cope with shower ?

There you go Piperdave hope the attached helps? The problem is the incoming cold water temperature changes throughout the year so it will affect the amount of hot used. In winter it can be coming in from the mains at 4 or 5 degC in late summer it can be 14 - 15degC from a designers point of...

Radiators boiling but no hot water from taps

Has the hot water cylinder got a back electric immersion if so you could turn it on for some hot water until it is fixed.

Radiators boiling but no hot water from taps

If the water from the hot taps is cold then there is a problem with the gravity circulation side around the indirect cylinder (I am assuming this is your set up). It could be as simple as lack of water in the system or an air lock but it could also be a blockage so best to call a heating...

Advice please - unvented system - before I call another G3 engineer!

Hi Dan The guy you had change the vessel & carry out the service last year were they G3 ? If so it is rather disappointing that they didn't pick up on the faults on your system. Most have been covered above but let me just list & clarify them for you. No cold water (balanced) connections...

Tempest Unvented Cylinder - Immersion Heater?

I don't know what forums you have been reading but clearly it wasn't this one. Anyone spouting crap like that would have quickly been quite rightly shot down in flames. Turn off the immersion & stick to timed gas fired hot water heating.

    Mixing metals on compression fittings

Are you sure it is steel & not a chrome plated brass fitting? It would be very rare for steel to be used as it rusts.

Or make your own! Collect up all the uPVC pipe cuttings (swarf), make sure it is clean & not contaminated with dirt. Make a little pile mix it well with a good amount of solvent weld until in melts into a paste the quickly apply with a stick or blade. It has worked for me & better than £18 worth...
