What flue gas analyser should I get?

I had a Kane 458 (I think), which I was happy with until my van got stolen with it in, to save a bit of money I replaced it with a Kane 255 and it's fine for me, it has a smaller screen so you have to switch between ppm/ratio but that's hardly much effort. The only think I wish it had was room...

Air lock on hot water circs

When you say boil it/burn it off, what exactly do you mean? I'm not familiar with this.

    Kane 255 Flue Analyser

I've not actually, it did cross my mind but not sure how it'll help really.

    Kane 255 Flue Analyser

Hello, i had my van nicked (along with all my tools) the other week so have had to replace everything and need a new analyser. I had the Kane 458 before with all the bits and was happy with it but the 255 is so much cheaper and i'm wondering if i really need the better one. As far as i can see...

    Wet Vac .

I have the Titan one too, about £35 from Screwfix. It's pretty small, you wouldn't want to do your whole house with it but for hoovering out boilers and little bits of dust it's great, pretty powerful. I'd never used it for wet stuff until the other week but it sucked some water out of a rad...

Can I become a plumber if I hate physics?

I'm a gas engineer and i have A-Levels in Maths and Physics and i'd say the level you need to be a gas engineer is way below that, more like basic GCSE level

Best Boiler Plus Compliant controls For A landlord That Doesn't Want To spend Any money?

I think what they haven't quite thought through with this is these controls only help if they're used properly. Most of my work is for landlords in East London and i can guarantee no tenant will even begin to understand how these are supposed to work, the vas majority just turn the heating on...

Best drain down hose - what do you use?

I got one of the orange rubber ones that have already been posted, it cost about £25 but i'm so glad i did, i spent so long unravelling the garden hose i had and trying to un kink it. Also it's bendier so lays flatter and drains down easier.

Modulating Condensing Bolier - what style pump is recommended ?

My guess is a new pump will sort of most of your problems. It's probably not pushing at half the force it did when new, this might be why your radiator isn't heating properly and also why the boiler is cycling, to prevent it from overheating due to the low flow of water through it.

Boiler servicing - flue test nozzles not easily accessible

As far as getting the flue analyser in, i've used just a bit of u-gauge hose before, and one of the pressure testing attachments in my Kane kit, it only needs to be able to draw the flue gases in at the end of the day. Looking at how tight that worktop is to the top of the boiler i'd be...

No-one can work out why our heating isn't working!

To be honest though if a pump has only lasted 5 years there's probably another problem too, even if a new pump got it going. I had one recently where like yours, only some rads were heating up and they didn't have as much hot water as before. The pump was still spinning but with no real force, I...

Radiator emitting strong odor when heat goes up

I haven't read all of this, but i painted a radiator in my house once with proper radiator paint and it gave of a slight smell when it was really hot for AGES, as in maybe 3-4 years.

No-one can work out why our heating isn't working!

So it's still not working i take it? It might be worth having a look at the smaller tank in your loft to make sure there's water in it

No-one can work out why our heating isn't working!

It sounds like a flow problem, as in the heat isn't getting pushed around the system. And i'd agree with everyone else and say the pump is probably the first place to look. I just wanted to add that it's possible for the pump to still be spinning making you think it's working, but on its way out...

    Drain Test Bag Leaking

I've been asked to perform a pressure test on a soil stack i've recently installed for a new build and i'm using an inflatable test bag for the bottom and i cannot get it to seal. I flushed the toilet thinking maybe a bit of water on top might help it and i can see it dripping though. The bag...

Literally the most confusing issue ever!

Also i've just looked up what an Alpha Flow smart 50 is, it seems to be more or less a thermal store, if the mains water coil in that has a hole in it it will be constantly letting mains water into the heating system and overpressurising it.

Literally the most confusing issue ever!

And to check the expansion vessel is working/sufficiently large enough try this. -Make sure the heating system is cold, this might take a whole day with the UFH -Get the pressure to say 1.5 bar, top it up or release some pressure from a drain off valve or bleed vent etc if necessary -Turn...

Literally the most confusing issue ever!

I'm getting slightly lost on this, is the pressure problem that it's too high or that it's dropping?

Water Leak between meter and house?

So have you worked out if this is definitely down to the flush valve yet or are you not sure until you rule this out? I just wanted to add that i had a job with a similar scenario to what you first say, inside stopcock off and the water meter was still spinning. The meter was in the pavement...
