I run a small plumbing and heating company. I am looking for a commercial gas engineer to help out with a few call outs, servicing, safety checks etc. Most work around London, Kent, Surrey, Sussex area. Ideally looking for someone self employed or another small business who could work...

    Need help with commercial catering

Does anyone in here have their commercial catering tickets? I have a job in London to connect and re-commission a couple of appliances in a commercial kitchen but I dont hold the relevant qualifications so looking for someone to help out. Let me know if you are interested.

    Commercial Gas Pricing

Anyone on here with their commercial gas tickets mind advising me on pricing. I have the qualifications but rarely do commercial work. How much do you normally charge for test and purging? Also if anyone with these tickets is on here and based in Surrey/Kent I may need a hand with a job I am...

Can I heat a vented cylinder with an empty coil?

You can use a sealed heating system to heat an open vented cylinder. So no reason to disconnect unless I am not understanding the problem?

    Commercial plumber req

What is the start date for the works? Has a design already been done for the system?

    Apprentice

As above really. Try and get some hands on experience for more than just a day or two. Its a big career change and it will be a significant drop in money too for the first couple of years at least so you need to make sure you are going to enjoy it.

    hiring gas engineers

Yeah, I find people just want to stick to doing one thing. A lot of people get put off because we do a lot of site work. Then the site worked dont want to work in occupied houses! What agency did you use? What were the fees if you dont mind me asking? I am still looking for 1 or maybe 2 people...

What we all working on this week ?

I hate those ESI valves. I have fitted a couple of those cylinders which come with them and both have had a valve which has leaked from the spindle in about 2 years. Not impressed.

    hiring gas engineers

I really don’t know what the answer is. The only way I have ever been successful in finding employees is by recommendations from people I know. They may have told me someone they know is looking to leave their current job etc.

    hiring gas engineers

Scott, for me I would happily pay 40k a year for a good gas engineer. Someone who is a very neat installer and who has service and breakdown knowledge. Would need to have knowledge of bathrooms and be able to first and second fix to a high standard My combi swaps all have a 1.5-2day allowance...

    hiring gas engineers

Personally if a fast track course I would be putting them on minimum wage as the qualifications mean nothing without experience. Just out of an apprenticeship you will be looking at 20-25k. Although they all expect to be on 30k minimum instantly.

    hiring gas engineers

I have tried indeed in the past and just get a load of time wasters or people applying who don’t have the required experience etc asked for. Ive had so many people claim to be good plumbers/gas engineers with 10 odd years experience who can’t put a pipe up on the wall level.

    hiring gas engineers

What do you mean by nearly qualified? As in still at college?

    hiring gas engineers

Just out of curiosity, where do you look for staff to recruit? Its the one thing I struggle with the most. Finding good plumbers/gas engineers is very difficult.

    hiring gas engineers

£40k per year is a good salary I would say. £35-40k seems to be the going rate. When you have other engineers working under your company registration, when you register the appliance online you select the engineer who did the work. The fitter would be liable for their mistakes, but obviously...

    Kw of system boilers

For something like that you can’t really justify sizing for full coil kw unless there is massive hot water demand. I would be looking at approx 18kw and advise to time the hot water to come on at different time to the heating.

Automatic air vents in loft spaces: Questions

The best way to clear the air is to shut down all the other radiators and just leave the one which isnt getting hot, open. I know you are worried about disturbing the valves and them leaking, if this does happen and they are wheelhead/lockshield valves then its normally just from the packing...
