UPDATE: Plumbers apparently not meant to be going to customers homes unless emergency callout?!

They aren't. They hold the register and attempt to ensure compliance

    If we go to lockdown.

It is true that the rules don't change. But if you are SE it is NOT your problem. Will the LL support your family if the worst happens? I don't think so. Even of the HES were to look at prosecutions, it wouldn't be you they are looking at. The ONLY person with the legal responsibility is the LL...

Ethical working practices during Coronavirus outbreak - What is expected of me in a customers home?

Are you desperate for the money? If not, stay at home - don't let THIER problem become YOUR problem

Government PAYE Wages / 80% Scheme Thing

I think your accountant is wrong. HMRC will pay 80% of your wage COSTS, not 100% of 80% of the pre furlough wage. And, yes, you have to pay it and claim it back later. UK practical business advice: COVID-19 | ICAEW Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme Under the new Coronavirus Job Retention...

    Noisy Pipes

Replace ball valve in WC cistern or CWS in loft. Can also be a tap washer. When noise occurs, try lifting lid off WC cistern, grasp the arm and pull gently up. IF noise stops, you have found it. Could also replicate with CWS but obviously normally more awkward

Baxi Bermuda PW5 Gas Fire Problem

But it is, generally, a straightforward fix.

Neighbour refusing to fix her noisy Water supply pipes

If it is a repetitive knocking noise, we call it “hammer” and is normally a faulty ball valve either in a WC cistern or CWS in loft

    Would this do much/work?

    HEP20 would be a bit neater ;)

    Leaking radiator

As above, but I would not use PTFE, not least because it is a bit fiddly to wrap it properly, especially if water still dripping out. I would smear the face of the valve with jointing compound: You can normally do this without completely emptying the rad, bit obviously have plastic sheeting and...

    Power flush vs passive filter

Flow rate and reversibility. I was the first independent in my area to have a Kamco over 20 years ago. I had started to lose work to BG on the strength of their PF'ing. I used it on all installs, but was never totally convinced that it wasn't just smoke and mirrors, compared to the "standard"...

    "Unliked" Member Tag Now Available

I really could not give a toss whether I get likes or otherwise. It is all a bit childish, IMO. Now, Dan, if you promise to send me some beer vouchers for being a good boy, I promise that I will try a bit harder ;)

    "Unliked" Member Tag Now Available

What is wrong with being argumentative? Or do you just want yes men and back slappers? A LOT of posts here contain wrong information, stated as fact, and I often say so, particularly when punters are being misinformed. It is true that we can all get things wrong, and I have apologised more than...

    Potable water

Yes. After posting, I did find a reference from DEFRA suggesting that you can have only a tap from. A bylawed CWS. But all it takes is a careless operative to screw it up by not replacing the lid properly. I certainly would not be happy not having a mains tap. We are in the 21st century, FGS

    Potable water

I am not actually a plumber, but an RGI. I did not think any tank stored water is for drinking. Either way you MUST have at least one mains cold tap (?). If going to the effort of revamping a kitchen, why not do it properly?

Can this gas pipe stay here ?

As above but may need venting

    Landlord Gase Safe Certificate

I have criticised others about lack of tech knowledge, and it is important that we DO keep up with legislation. Some stuff is "open to debate", but I was fundamentally wrong. Even having posted a link with the correct info! But thanks, anyway. It IS very difficult to keep abreast of tech stuff...

    Landlord Gase Safe Certificate

Fair enough, Chris. In my head it was 11 months. In my defence, I have not been SE for 5 years so have not done CP12 s for private LL s since the new rules. None the less, I am a little embarrassed.

    Landlord Gase Safe Certificate

It is ALWAYS the Landlord. It is his responsibility. My LA, and I know a lot of others do, give 3 chances and then apply for a warrant to force entry. Forward Dating: the rules were changed a couple f years ago. To exactly the same as an MOT. I month early, post date the required retest date. I...
