I was using generic closed cell foam insulation from Screwfix, the grey stuff with a slit in it 13mm thick. I don't have room in a lot of places for much thicker. All the duct tape I have seen dries out after a few years and falls off, I can't imagine that people can actually use it to seal...
Does anyone have recommendations for tape to seal the seams in foam pipe insulation? Most tape seems to get brittle over time and lose its stickiness and lets go.
Also does anyone know of a foam pipe wrap? There are a lot of spots around pipe clamps, valves, pumps, etc. that cannot be covered...
I bought a used acrylic hot tub shell that I plan to sink into the ground in the backyard. The plan is to heat it with a tube/shell exchanger off my thermal store, with a main pump for the jets, and a circulating pump for the filter and heat.
anyone know a good place to buy jets, and other hot...
Not lesser known, fancy or particularly cool, but isolation valves. I am shocked at how few of them there are in my house. Also proper drain taps, that you can hook to a hose, open and do not leak around the little nut that opens them. Strategically positioned isolation and drain taps make...
Does anyone know of programmable TRVs that would not look out of place on period cast iron radiators?
Even finding regular TRVs is tricky, all the ones that "look good" seem to be very expensive and very good quality.
I did look at this one:
2060x550 Stainless Steel Buffer Vessel (290 Litre) - https://shop.newarkcoppercylinder.co.uk/2060x550-stainless-steel-buffer-vessel
Again about twice the price of the Telford with no immersion boss.
So after looking around a while for a plain 300 liter stainless cylinder with enough connections I find:
1) Gledhill flexible buffer store
2) Telford standard buffer (1/2 price of the Gledhill, with 3K immersion, dual stat, and TPRV included)
3) Joule buffer (4x the Telford price at Plumbcity...
I am still looking for a G3 in Norwich.
In this thread I posted a possible plan of what I would like to do:
https://www.plumbersforums.net/threads/please-criticize-my-plan.111888/
It is with a plate exchanger for DHW, but I would also be OK with a large internal coil like the OEG above. I am...
I will definitely be in touch with building control. I have always had good experiences in the past, and I have found that if your work is neat and correctly done, they are usually very agreeable. I am still unsure if a sealed low pressure (2 bar) store with an external plate exchanger requires...
Thanks, I will try to get a quote from McDonald.
How did you find out how big the DHW coil was in the Gledhill? and which model has the 3.7 sq. m. coil? Most of the manufacturers don't seem to list the coil sizes or even the ratings.
Aside from being overpriced, most commercial thermal stores are not designed to deliver 12lpm of hot water while running at 60C. The DHW coils are too small. There are a few exception like the steel OEG store I linked above, I lived with that one for a few years in my previous house and it...
Typically the coils are too small (1-2 m^2 surface area), even in most commercial thermal stores, which is why people think stores need to run at 80C to work. I plan on running mine at 60C. I also live in Norwich, which has very hard water and I am worried a bit about internal coils scaling as...
In addition to mains pressure hot water, I would like to have heat flowing to the radiators whether the boiler is running or not. My heating loop will use a modulating pump (Grunfos alpha 2) and TRVs all round.
I am looking to install a thermal store to replace my current vented cylinder. I plan to use an external plate exchanger for DHW and heat the store directly from my existing vented boiler. So what I am looking for is a plain stainless steel tank (no internal coils) with a variety of connections...
Here is something similar from a UK? supplier:
LMT type buffer tanks - https://buffer-tank.co.uk/lmt-buffer-tank.php
It can be had with a stainless exchanger (they call it DN32) that has a large surface area of 6.3 sq m, better than the OEG.
Anyone have experience with these? and is anyone...
I have just moved in to a 30s house in Norwich, and plan to install one of these:
http://plumbingsupplies24.co.uk/hygienic-buffer-storage-tank-vertical/
It will replace a vented system.
I am looking for someone G3 certified to commission the tank, and to provide annual inspection and boiler...
I think the reason they would be popular in the US and Canada is because many hot water cylinders are just mild steel tanks with a flame at the bottom and a tube up the middle which connects to the flue. They run until they start to leak, which is usually about 10 years, if you remember to...
