Any boilers that can still use 15mm gas supply?

It depends on the existing pipe - length, dia. and fittings. There are standard calculations an installer should be able to do. Alternatively, he could measure the pressure at the meter and at the existing boiler, and estimate from that the maximum gas flow to meet the regs.

    Annual inhibitor concentration testing

I bought a Sentinel test kit, but found the colour chart hard to tell whether it was OK or not. Nowadays I take a sample of the water, about 50ml in a jam jar, when checking the Magnaclean. Drop in a few bright wire nails. They'll go rusty in 2-3 weeks if the inhibitor is low.

    No switched live to boiler?

Are you sure the wire to the boiler is permanently live, not just when firing called? 1603277129 Tried to edit earlier post but it wouldn't send. Apologies if this is already covered, I haven't waded through the whole thread. You say it's wired straight from the mains, but have you checked at...

    Central Heating Pipes

I suppose it's full and up to normal working pressure. I would check it with kitchen paper a few times and if OK you're good to go. Don't forget to wash/wipe off excess flux. I don't think that's a problem. Any air pockets will soon be entrained and be vented.

    Central Heating Pipes

Do you mean you no longer need the tee (as the rad is being moved)? As long as the pipe is completely drained you could clean up the socket and solder in a short length of 15mm pipe, with an end cap, if that doesn't foul the floorboards. If you want to remove the tee you need 2 couplers and a...

    What system have I got?

Interesting. I have an Ideal SE 50, installed 1999, and according to the manual it's for fully-pumped systems only.

    What system have I got?

Does the HW cylinder have a thermostat? If not, it's likely you have pumped CH, gravity HW, as others have said.

Checking advice given re burst galvanised pipe

If he's going to replace it I'd have thought MDPE would be a better bet than copper.

How can I cure my gravity circulation problem?

If you haven't already, you could try saving it on a drive, then click on the file name to attach it.

How can I cure my gravity circulation problem?

You can, I've done it a few times.

    Priority domestic hot water PDHW

OK thanks. (Thought I'd sent this yesterday but getting a message saying it wants more than 20 characters.)

    Priority domestic hot water PDHW

Agreed, my scheme does not allow independent control of the HW & CH, it behaves as system W. If going for PDHW I assume that’s the main intention. I never saw much advantage in Y or S-plan. I had W-plan in 70s/80s, with 3 young kids and an h&c fill washing machine so plenty of HW demand, and...

    Priority domestic hot water PDHW

I agree my scheme needs HW ‘on’ on the clock, but that's how system W has always worked from way back. My guess is that's what's usually meant by PDHW. The only addition could be the ability to have CH when HW is "off" on the clock. I doubt that the OP wants that (perhaps he'll come back...

    Priority domestic hot water PDHW

I've sketched a circuit using a NC SP contactor (or relay as I'd usually call it) so not sure why EvilDr uses a NC DP. But my circuit in #18 does it with neither. Cylinder stats are (or can be) double-throw, C, NO and NO. And I could add a manual switch to override the PDHW and bring the CH on.

    Priority domestic hot water PDHW

That's right, but the circuit to achieve it has to be designed. I was assuming boiler has an adjustable control-stat, either old-fashioned type with a knob, or temperature set on a screen. When on weather compensation there's an additional control to stop or modulate the gas at some lower...

    Priority domestic hot water PDHW

It might be possible to wire up a mid-position valve so it works either/or, but as the way it's intended to be used it allows flow to both CH and HW simultaneously. That's the whole point. If it's old enough it will be PDHW (eg Honeywell W-plan) because that was before Y and S-plans came in...

    Priority domestic hot water PDHW

Is the NC DP contactor in addition to the cylinder and room stats? I think the OP would need a wiring diagram. 1590153945 If yours is a reply to my #33, yes. The control-stat setpoint adjustable by the user. The boiler must have controls to stop or reduce gas flow when system demand is below...

    Priority domestic hot water PDHW

Depending on the boiler, it either stops/starts on the control-stat, or modulates the gas flow down. And then stops if the minimum modulated flow gives more heat than the cylinder takes.

    Priority domestic hot water PDHW

Could be wrong, but I don't think either of them gives PDHW. The Y-plan doesn't, and if you want PDHW you would go for W-plan with either/or diverter valve. Cheaper and simpler. With S-plan as shown there, if CH and HW are called, both valves open. Interesting that there's now talk about PDHW...

    Priority domestic hot water PDHW

I assume the boiler needs an input to tell it which is calling.
