HELP - We have purchased a bath mixer with two separate 1/4 turn levers. I know the cold lever should be on the right, but should the tap be off when the lever is back along the bath, or off when it is forward over the bath? ie. do you push the lever backwards to turn it on or forwards?

normaly off when lever forward over bath, otherwise will get knocked open

Most have a little hex key slot so you can pull off and rotate at wish.

Its up to you! I would say, one way you could knock it on, but may obstruct the washing area.

Your right the cold is usually on the right wherever you go in the country. As far as I know one reason its on the right is so visually impaired people don't scald themselves by turning on the hot water by mistake.

spot on with the scalding for visually impaired people saw one house with both bath and sink taps wrong way round and it could be really nasty for anyone with sight problems

Hello All
I have just bought a kitchen sink mixer tap from EBAY. It seems that this one is designed so that the levers are pushed back to turn it on, and brought to point straight up to turn off. Is this usual. Looking at this thread it seems maybe it is, as this keeps the levers out of the way from being knocked when your using the sink. Just seemed odd to me.

Any reasurance would be welcome. Don't want to be going mad just yet.

Bob

Simple

1/4 turn taps usually have hot turning on clockwise and cold turning on anti clockwise.

It is standard for the lever taps to have the levers facing (or pointing) to the user when off.

If they rang along the same direction as the edge of the bath you would be pushing it to face away when turning it on and often have a wall in the way

Saying that the valves should be inter changeable so you can please your self really
