1/4 Turn Taps

Are all 1/4 turn taps of the ceramic disc variety? The one I've just looked at is a monoblock kitchen mixertap with 1/4 turn between open and closed and they are not only quite stiff (so much so that one of the plastic handles has rounded splines and wont turn the valve ) but have a 'plasticy' feel to them, different to my own which I know are ceramic discs.
What is the most cost effective way of sorting this out?

Usually look for the manufactuers name and give the helpline a ring. Too many different valves these days.

just signed up today, tues 24th .
I have the same problem with one of my 1/4 turn handle spining on the splined shaft.
where would i get the name of the maker to buy a new one

Find out the manufacturer and get them to send a replacement.

1/4 turn taps normally are ceramic disc. Thing is, there are tons of different taps and valves about these days, especialy coming in from China.

All fittings that are worth fitting comply to WRAS standards 🙂

I can answer my own question now, just because its 1/4 turn does not mean its ceramic disc.
I had no choice but to replace the whole tap for a customer because there was no way of finding the manufacturer and when I got it home and striped it down properly, it was basicly a shiny metal disc with 2 holes in it which when turned were blocked/opened by a similar sized rubber disc. The problem with it was one side was very stiff even after lubrication.

So be warned, when buying a new tap if it say's its 1/4 turn and it looks a fairly low price then it probably wont be ceramic disc. You learn something every day.
