Hi.

I have a chafetteau britony se combi boiler with the NeXT problem:
Hot water is not constantly hot

British engineer came to see what's the problem and told me the diverted valve is faulty and is 2nd time in 2 years that it has been replaced and cannot replace it anymore because the reason for constant breakdown is sludge/dirt in water.

So I need a magnetic filter and that should fix the problem.

He quoted me 260£ but I've found on Internet magnetic filters for around 120£. What do u think.

Will it solve the problem?

Should I install the filter myself and save money?

Should I do a power flush as well?

Please help as it needs solving asap and I don't want to pay loads of money for something I don't know if it's gonna solve the problem.

Cheers.

Can get a magna clean for about £80-£90. B. Gas do that a lot to try and get out of fixing it. Had a customer who was told after her pump was changed they would not replace it again free of charge as her system was dirty, causing the pump to fail. They quoted £800 for powerflush. I put fernox in, left it for a week then added inhibitor. The system wasnt even dirty. Would just try adding cleaner first, i dont really rate powerflushes

Do a powerflush any local plumber should be able to give you a price and they can stick on the filter while there at it.

The system water does have to be clean for this boiler ,due to moving parts in plastic housings, any system sludge will soon stop this

Think magna clean or similar unit a good idea if the system water is dirty,if is hard to say if you need a power flush without seeing system but the cleaner the better and any new boiler fitted in the future will require a nice clean system

I do not know your plumbing skills but this needs doing correctly, pointless doing as a token gesture ,it is important works to the system and a clean system can save you a lot of money in the long run

imho

Well british gas told me I only need the filter not powerflush.

I'll get a quote from my plumber to see how much it will cost me ti install the filter.

He told me that the reason I don't have hot water sometimes is because the valve sends the hot water into heating circuit. Does
It make sense?

Had to go with British gas. They said they won't replace valve if I put filters with someone else.

I've told British gas about flush and they said it's not needed. They will guarantee that once the filter is fitted there will be no problems

BG are swines. Now AA is jumping on the bandwagon. Bet they'll be no better. The filter will help, they're simply a poweful magnet which attracts the magnetic sludge from the systems and holds it. You will want to clean the filter in about 4 weeks, as on a mucky system it will be loaded right up.

That's it

I've decided. I'm going to replace the boiler.

No more filters and homecare agreements.

What do u suggest to replace the britony with?

Should I replace it myself and get a corgi engineer to verify and test it?

I'm going to flush the system with fernox 2 weeks prior to new boiler installation and add inhibitor

£300 for what? I'd expect a boiler swap to cost more then that especially if flushing and adding a filter.
