Hi I've a indirect vented hot water cylinder, just recently my heating and hot water hasn't been working, what was happening was when I called for heat for my rads the valve springs open but when heating off it doesn't close unless I switch the electric off and then it springs back. I've changed the sycro but this didn't change anything. Does Anyone have any other ideas? P.s sometimes it takes about 10 attempts or more for it to even work. Many thanks dewy.

Possibly duff controller / stat or programmer or both or wiring fault. Is microswitch making When valve closes.

If it's a honeywell valve they will stay open if there is no call for hot water. Use a proper fault finding method rather than changing components that you think are faulty.

Thanks for your replies, yeah micro switch is making when closed, and yeah it's a Honeywell valve. I'm new to this, just recently qualified so just need a little experience, What are the easiest ways to eliminate other possibilities? Regards dewy

Get a copy of a Y plan wiring diagram and test for live at various points until you discover where the fault is. Be methodical about it and you will soon pinpoint the fault.
