Hi everyone, just in the process of fitting the the flow & return pipe work for a new combi the MI is asking for a ABV to be fitted if using TRV's on rads my question is will the towel rad (no TRV) not allow the water to keep flowing thus acting as a by-pass?
Or is the ABV set to a certain pressure to balance the system ?

Towel rails can be turned off. Fit an ABV as directed by the manufacture. That way you'll not invalidate the warranty.

It is not permitted to use a radiator as a pump bypass these days.

The ABV is not for balancing but would open up when all TRVs (or zone valves)
are closed thus allowing circulation through the heat exchanger preventing
boiler overheat on pump overrun.
