Hi everyone,
Been looking at the forum on and off over the years and now im after some advice/idea's from other plumbers.
I've been working as a plumber for the last 7 years for the same firm (Small family construction business). Recently i've gotten incredibly fed up as I feel im begining to "stagnate" ie, not working as hard. This is due to there not being any upwards progression for me. The plumber i've learnt everything from is very "old school" and not technical enough (doesnt even know how to drive), which i feel i've out grown him and have very little (plumbing wise) to learn from him. The plumber i work with isn't gas safe, so I cant currently go down that route.
The options i've been toying with are to go it alone and see if i can make a small sucess through my own business (i already have a limited company which i put some of my foreigners through). Or i try finding plumbing companys that are gas safe registered and see if anyone would be willing to help me become gas safe myself.
The problem i've got is that i dont really know any other plumbers. Working for my current firm means i've never had to work with anyone else.
I've got savings which i'm thinking of getting a van with for personal and business use, regardless of what i do. (currently have a company van)
Advice, opinions and personal experience welcome. My current job is very cushy but the money just isnt enough and I feel at my age (27), now is the time to make some big changes and push forward.
I'm based in Wolverhampton if that makes any difference.
Thanks in advance
Dan
