Air block after fitting outside tap !!! help !! please

Hello, and good morning, first off ...I am a woman..so explain simply !!! 😕

We have a combi boiler installed...so far so good..and have recently moved the outside tap, since doing this every time we turn the tap on ..hot or cold ..we get a clunking noise from the pipes !?!?!?! :angry_smile: How are we able to rid this ...it is doing my nut in ... in clunks whether upstairs tap or downstairs....

Do I need to drain the system . .ie., turn water off at mains and run all water out then turn back on and refill ..... :wink: if thats the "simples" answer then that will be fab

to the outside tap ? yes I think so ...the noise seems to come from in the house.... between boiler and water tap shut off .

You could try turning off and draining down, Air doesn't sound the problem though! You can try turning back your cold water main tap a bit, that might make a difference. If all else fails though, purchase a shock arrestor, install it somewhere on your cold water suply and that should solve the clanking? fingers crossed!

is the pipework properly clipped since it has been altered ?

yes pipework clipped ok, tapped in from stop tap by fridge so not much extra pipework .

can't see it being air lock since its not on the heating side, any work been done to the mains outside ? must be a coincidence and the water pressure is too high, try as diamond gas said

Check all your taps are off and not dripping-washers. Also check out the toilet(s) for overflow problem. And see if the recent pipework isn't stressed by alignment fault.

Do you have quater-turn taps installed? This is a common complaint. The arrestors are the way to go.

Sounds like water hammer. Turn your main stopcock clockwise a quarter turn then try opening and closing the problem taps. If it still makes a banging noise, close it another quarter turn and try again. Keep doing this till the banging stops. It should work but if the water flow slows down too much and the noise keeps up, bite the bullet and get a professional in. Don't go buying shock arresters and stuff like that if this problem is not a new one. If your system was ok before you moved the outside tap then it looks like whoever did the work has just turned the stopcock on full bore (Am guessing this was a DIY job?!:toilet:

I have had a couple like this recently and found it to be a double check valve sticking, check to see if theres a double check valve fitted on the mains supply to the outside tap..

I think the noise would only occur when the outside tap was used if this was the case? I could be wrong though
