air lock

how do i clear the air lock as my radiators will not fill up upstairs:speechless:

Is there water in the tank in the loft or pressure in your system?

Few more details wouldn't go amiss. As Simon said above, is it open vented (tanks in loft probably) or a sealed system? Have you had work done, is there a leak, is it gas or oil etc etc etc

sorry mate yes it has a tank in loft but this is filling back up ,the gas bioler down stairs will fire up but cuts out almost instantly because the water over heats the thermostat because the water is not moving,i changed a gate valve which had broken and un did all the nuts either side of the pump and gte valves and got water but i think the lock must be on tha first floor very near the boiler, i drained the radiator directly under the tank on tha ground floor and it took a long while bit eventualy it did fill but stiil nothing upstairs

Vent the pump, should be a silver screw on top. If you can get the pump moving water it will help. Is it a 3 port valve in airing cupboard with a manual vent?

pump seems okay but still no joy , please bear with me i am crap on the computer,like i am at plumbing but if you need any fitting help(bedrooms kitchen } or jionery advice im your man

Set your programmer to heating only. Turn hot water demand off

in your airing cupboard near your hot water cylinder there will be a valve with a box like structure on top like this on the side

do you mean the silver bow and is this the diverter

yes the silver box is the diverter. you can manually open it by moving the lever which is at one end of the silver bit and lock it in place. this will in effect open the circuit of the heating side to allow for refilling the system.

Also worth looking around for bleed valves (frequently one on the flow and one on the return). These can be hidden almost anywhere. Start from the flow off the boiler and follow the pipe until it reaches the pump. Then follow until it reaches the zone valve. Then follow it until you find the first radiator off the circuit.

If you find a bleed valve then expect to find another.

If all the radiators are fed by 10mm pipe and the circuit is 22mm then you should find a "spider" (the manifold where all the radiators have their flow and return connected). Near this point there should be a bleed valve.
