My daughter has Glowworm Spacesaver 40F gas boiler, which needs a new Air pressure switch.

Although the boiler is old, it worked well, until now.

The original part reference is 419623, but her gas fitter has been unable to get it.

He has been given part 800853 which he is told, is a direct replacement and will do the job.
He has tried two of these and they are not suitable. They work for a short and then keep shutting down.

Glowworm have been contacted and don't stock part 419623 any more.

Does anyone know where we might find this part, or if someone is taking out this boiler, from a property, could the air pressure switch be saved and used again?

Any help, advice or possible contacts would be appreciated.

A £30 switch is a lot cheaper than a new boiler!

Thanks for the reply.

If 800853 is the right part, any idea why it would shut down?

The first replacement did this, and so does the second.

It runs for about an hour, and then shuts down.

need a bit more info on the system.
shuts down after an hour. are the controls still calling for heat ?
does it happen only on heating or hw or both ?

does the boiler start ok when heat called for ?

why does he suspect the aps ? you've tried 2 so that tells me theres more to it.

The air pressure switch has to be "tapped" to start working, the heating and hot water then heats up until it reaches the thermostatic temperature setting and shuts down.
When it needs to start up again there is a "whoosh" noise, but the boiler does not ignite. Give the air pressure switch a "tap" and it starts up again.

Apparently the 800853 part does not look the same (ie is not identical)
as the original part that was taken out and the new cap does not fit.

The 800853 came in wrapping labelled "Ideal" and not Glowworm.

Looks like this air pressure switch (that needs to be tapped with a wooden spoon to make it work) is not something others have come accross.

Is the only option now new boiler?
