Alpha cb 24 x pressure problem help

Hi.

I have an alpha cb 24 x boiler

the problem is every few days the 2 neons start flashing and the boiler wont come on which indicates a pressure fault. The pressure is always in the green and deosnt go down. Yet i need to top it up to get it back on.

I need to do this at least once a week and sometimes need to leave it several hours before it will start back up but always comes back on .i need this fixed asap. Ive had an engineer who said it was my expansion vessel and pumped it back up and it worked again for a few days but has cut out again i topped it up and it started back up after a few hours.


Can anyone help me with what the problem is

Why not get the plumber back who pumped you up? Loosing pressure means you're loosing water somewhere, check all visible pipework and outside where the safety blow-off pipe should be, if you know what that is? If the pipe outside is dripping it's an easy fix for a pro 🙂 If not that then you got to look internally ... If it were me coming to you for the first time I'd want to check that the vessel had been re-charged correctly before attempting to find the source of pressure loss despite you saying it'd already been done, by-the-way!... 🙂

ot losing pressure. The pressure doesn't seem to be dropping. It stats the same but the lights keep coming on indicating a fault with pressure but it never goes below the 1 bar.

Does the gauge move at all? If it neither rises or falls then it's faulty .... There's a separate component used to register the heating system pressure. The gauge is there as a visible indicator 🙂

The gauge does go up and down but the water pressure doesn't go that low its always in the green part. When it turns off.

The plumber released the pressure and pumped up the expansion valve. And refilled to to 1.5. Bar. It has been ok then yrsterday cut off again I had to top it back up to about 3 bar then it came back on. It's very strange What can be cause this fault if it was a leak the pressure gauge would go right down but it doesn't

If re-filling overcomes the problem then I reckon you're loosing water somewhere! The fact that the gauge doesn't go to zero doesn't mean a great deal to be honest. Get yourself someone back to have a look... We're heading for a cold weekend 🙂

I know. I've been under and can't see any leaks. Before the plumber came out the orb pipe outside looked to have been leaking as there Re water marks outside near the pipe but since the plumber recharged the vessel. The pr v has stopped leaking.

PRV's designed to release water above 3bar usually.... Chances are of you were pressurising that high it'd release the pressure when the heating came on 🙂 It doesn't take that much water to lower the pressure enough to turn the boiler off ... tie a bag around the pipe outside and see of anything is collected overnight. Nothing in it eliminates that as the source ... imho

Indeed, on the few Alphas I have been I have changed more O rings and seals than on all other boilers all together.
