Well mad with me self,split some down me ben sherbert work shirt,all could have been avoided with a little training,nothing over the top,just say the standard £350 short training day
Not a lot when you take into account the cost of lost soap through spillage 🙁

i spoke to the local rep up here who said it was compulsary in some areas of England to have a competancy ticket to fit it (not required yet up here) it is like most things very easy when you know how, but who amongst us actually reads any instructions, especially for a simple fitting, but he quotes sites they have been called to because of leaks and the contractor blaming the tracpipe and fittings, only to find all manner of problem with the way they have been installed, ie gas paste and ptfe tape all over the loose ring/olive, (completely dry fit for these) to the pipe being strangled and one clip per 25m role, etc etc etc, all the things the "real workers" tell me they dont need taught not to do ( and who cant spot obvious faults on tracpipe and fittings used on assessment rigs), it is actually possible to use a 22mmm comp fitting and plumbing ptfe tape on a live gas pipe and not get a leak, and trying to get some people to classify it properly when i tell them it isnt leaking is amazing

You have to be trained in the correct use of approved fittings (split collar flare fittings), their is also a maximum bend radius to be aware of and the one that a lot neglect to do is, correct protection of exposed ends after fitting.

Sorry but if you need training to do the above,you should leave the trade
Is not fitting a boiler far more difficult,as many things we done,are we to take training on every boiler we install
The gas training is based on making sure we have the ability to look up regs ect and that includes locating and reading manufacturing instructions
and yes if I fit something new,I do read the instructions as would most responsible gas plumbers
Any responsible gas plumber would not dodge up fittings and pipe installations as described above,this has more to do with the poor existing basic gas training and allowing inexperienced,unsuitable operatives loose on low paid site work

But am sure all the training bodies will be rubbing their hands in anticipation of more cash flowing through the door on another pointless course and even more 5 yearly refresher on how to make a pipe joint

ive never heard so much rubbish, you can fit that stuff with your eyes shut, theres nothing difficult about it, if your gas registered you should know the regs regarding safe pipe work and following mi's you will never have a problem???

Ok but why not give manufacturers reccomendation for fitting instructions in the pack? rather than a "course" you fit boilers that you dont need specific courses for installation, as a competant person surely we can be trusted to comply with manufacturers instructions, used simular fittings on solar installations and yes there is a technique to using them but nothing that clear fitting instructions wouldnt address.

If some of the installs I have seen using it is anything to go by, it is a good thing they make you do the course to become approved.
I have saw a number of installs where the pipe is put under a lot of stress due to the small bend radius. Installers do not realise there is a minimum radius for this stuff. They think because it is flexible you can contort it all over the place. The most common issue is the unprotected ends. In my opinion the guys fitting do not realise you MUST protect the exposed ends with the silicone tape provided after tightness test. Not seen anything dodgy like kirkgas mentioned but I am sure there is plenty out there.
The course is very basic concentrating on these issues and once you have there is no refresher required.

the only bit of your post i disagree with is the trainers making a fortune from this, sorry but nobody makes any money from training this, it is alwaays done as a freebie, someone has posted that why dont we get MI rather than training, the MI's are available but like most things we dont read them, the reps give free on site or in office training to ensure the guys know what they are doing and it is an appreciation of the product, no great hard sell, and to those who say you should be chucked out the trade if you cant do it, i heartly agree, and find most who cant do it properly have been in the trade for ever,

Hi my answer is exactly what Graham M has just said and also what Kirk gas has already said I have already used trac pipe in the past but people have asked for a competancy ticket! its just the same as having to do an aquatherm course and a fusion weld course to get those tickets !. You know what its like now day and age its not hard to plug 2 electrodes into a piece of plastic or heat up some plasti and join together!!!!!!

RIGHT, if ANYONE wants FREE tracpipe training i will deliver it, in our centre 1 mile from Glasgow Airport, contact me to arrange, this isnt a con or anything dodgy, the only proviso i make is that it needs to be done to suit my timetable, i am quite happy to organise a couple of dates and if anyone wants to come along they can, obviously a bit of dialogue/arranging will be required, but i can certainly sort it out, if you are in a hurry it can be done in 1/2 day
