Apprenticeship?

Hi all, I'm 28 and looking for an apprenticeship in plumbing. I'm not thinking that I'll be earning 40K a year and driving a BMW before you all start! I've been looking for a way into the industry for a number of years now and I'm struggling. I'm a qualified teacher but I really should have got into an apprenticeship after leaving school. Family pressure and not knowing exactly what I wanted to do meant I ended up at University and then training to be a teacher. The thing is I really don't enjoy my job, I've stuck it out and given it this long to know without a shadow of a doubt that it is not what I want to be doing for the rest of my life! I know I'm a bit late getting into it now but better late than never! Anyway if there is anyone out there in the Manchester area that is looking to take on an apprentice then please get in touch. I'm starting an evening basic plumbing skills course at Stockport college in September so it would be amazing if I could also get some experience at the same time and do my NVQs even if its just a couple of days a week here and there helping out, I'm really eager to gain as much experience as I can so if you think you could offer me anything at all please get in touch.

id be careful, it isnt as easy as getting some evening work and getting your nvq, how will it be funded? the nvq not the tech cert

I know Fuzzy I realise that. My main priority is to become a decent plumber I'm not after any short cuts. If the only thing I can get is a couple of days a week at the moment then I'd be willing to do it so I can get some hands on experience and gain a few skills which in turn could lead to me getting an apprenticeship. In the mean time I'll be working at Asda, for the Royal Mail or doing supply teaching to fund myself and get by. I realise its not ideal but I am commited to becoming a plumber and gaining the skills to ensure that I can do that. If this is the only way at the moment then so be it. I completely understand the problems eveyone is facing at the moment and that the lack of work is a problem for eveyone, all I'm asking is that if anyone could offer me a few days here and there so I could gain some experience it would be a great help!
