Customer wants a water softener fitted. Problem is kitchen sink doesn't back onto outside wall or any other drainage other then 1 1/2 sink waste. Has anyone ever ran waste and overflow pipe into this waste rather then finding separate outside drainage before? Thanks
1. Waste. As long as you have a decent fall on the pipework this shouldn't be a problem. I've done it with no issues.
2. Overflow. Again you need a decent fall, but don't forget also this should only run if there is a fault. If you run it directly into a waste then the customer may never know if there is a fault. Very expensive if on a water meter. Its salt water so should go into a foul drain. Perhaps use a tun dish?
You can use a drain away waste pipe kit (found on eBay) for the regeneration waste as this should be pressurised as a result of the mains flushing the waste brine away.
The overflow (like all overflows) is there in case there is a malfunction with the softener (possible, but highly unlikely) so length (within reason) is not so important as fall. The outlet does not necessarily need to go to waste but should be visible for user to easily identify a problem if it drips.
