B&Q Looking For GSR's To Do Boiler Swaps

Not sure if this is already being talked about elsewhere on forums but anyway...

I was in B&Q earlier (yes, I know) and one of the staff came up to me, "because I looked like a plumber" and began whispering about how they're struggling to find any takers for their new boiler swap scheme or something. Apparently, they're offering £700 for a straight swap using one of their off the shelf boilers from September this year.

Sorry it's lacking much more information but I was with a customer discussing bathroom and shower options and it had gone 5pm so I was just nodding but hardly listening.

I'm back in there first thing tomorrow so could find out more but in the mean time anyone can call in and ask about it. Don't tell anyone though, she said it's supposed to be hush-hush and all that. :thinking:

Couple of chaps I know do the bathroom stuff for them and do a good job, but it will attract the cowboy's, but they have a quality procedure behind them to pick up the bad work. Just wonder who they will employ to do their quality control for boiler installs?

It will be a case of £700 labour plus room stat /magna cleanse /inhibitor pipe fittings etc prob end up £300 ish i reckon surveys will be pants probably .

otherside of coin could get repeat servicing work in the future

if its true then that has got to be good news because then it means GSR's will want to work for them forcing others to follow suit in terms of pay and that must good for everybody.

i re read that and i think it just cant be that simple but we live in hope

its got to be worth considering due to future works like servicing and building contact base of custs , i would imagine you will pay for materials

id tek it with a pinch of salt tbh untill you see it in black and white. Somebody working in b and q wouldnt know what the difference is between a straight swap and a bent one 🙂

As I said, I didn't have time to be drawn into a full blown conversation with the woman but she gave me the name of another employee who I should ask for in the morning and to pass on the info to any GSR's I might know. She said the boiler is free and you get £700 for the swap. I asked if it was free to the customer and she said no and muttered something about a government scheme.

I'll definitely speak to the person she mentioned though and find out exactly what the score is.

iv had some people ask me if im in the trade soo so speak and if i have a card for when they give up and cant do it..
Been in wickes buying some bits for a job and landed a full bathroom fit coz her fella wanted to use rapid set floor addy to tile round the shower!!!

Nothing wrong with using rapid in showers better in my opinion and possibly a must depending on tile size
