Hi I had my heating on for a few days all of a sudden there was no heating in downstairs radiators, when I turn the heating on it kicks in then turns of after 5 minutes. I have also turned up. The upstairs is heating up and pump is hot, i have bleed downstairs radiator , boiler was serviced in August but I haven't really used heating until now, I'm not sure wat I'm doing but i remember the engineer given the pump a little knock saying it was sticking and also turned something up or down near pump but I have no idea what? Please can u help I am a single lady alone and don't want to be ripped of , i have a baxi fireplace which works and the pilot light is on. Any suggestions of what I can safely try to fix please????

Replace the pump
Hi thanks for your answer do you know what type/name of new pump i can fit and how much to cost please? Can I tell if it just sticking before hand? Newer pumps says there's a spindle you can undo with a screwdriver but I can't see it on this model? Thx for your help
Screwfix 15-60 pump wilo is a good one

Yes Replace the pump I would say the Pump was sticking that is why the service Guy gave it a Bang with a spanner . And upstairs was heating by gravity you had heating upstairs and hot water I would say . What some times can happens the impeller the part that circulates the water this can come adrift from the main shaft and the impeller the parts that circulates the water stays put but if checked on that big black nut on the pump and you loosen this nut and take it out it will show the main shaft is turning but the impeller is not turning which circulates the water to the heating . If replacing the Pump look for a 3 speed pump you don't need any thing fancy A 6mt head pump is good enough and try Screwfix I hope this Helps and its something you can do yourself I will make a plumber out of you yet
