Bandits

I have noticed (as have others) that there seems to be a number of bandits
using the plumbing & the cen. heating area to trawl thro our knowledge.

I will always share my knowledge will my fellows and ask your advice. We
should also look after the general public who log in with a real prob.

'The combis thats gone **** up on boxing day' 'pressure lost' even
the 'adventurous DIYer who has gone outside his comfort zone'
all should be helped. and Tradesmen who need some input aswell

BUT there ARE be some on those forums who just want info - not qualified or able to
return the help we give BUT are in it for self gain - mini prop developers
spring to mind and maybe unqualified BANDITS.

i am more than to help most users other than dingbats who seem hell bent on taking there boiler apart with no regards to there own or families safety.

In reality the only advise you can give should only be rads and tanks. Everything to do with electrickery and gas is a no no. There's not a lot left apart from call someone in mate.

I think we should have a plumbers only thread where plumbers can post questions for other plumbers without any access for the general public. That way we can help each other out with plumbing related problems. Acess would be granted to members with 500 posts and over to show their serious about posting and helping here.

Not really John but there has been a bit of traffic about some odd balls who
ask questions about similar subjects and maybe masquerade as ?????

Gas fitters etc. and I just thought I would share my thoughts

gas related questions are easy to filter....

ask the person asking what the latest tb is from gas safe login or similar, if they cant login then dont reply !.

I know some of my replies don't appear to be too helpful like an oil boiler problem advising they start at the tank, well to anyone in the business they get the hint to check the filter or a blocked line, there are times the answer to a problem can be looking at us and we just need a quick reminder, a tradesman can see the answer for what it is a chancer wants more info like where is the oil line.

There will always be bandits and many get good advice from others who are trying to achieve 100 posts to get into the Arms, maybe Gas Safe or OFTEC registration could be enough to get into the private sections of the site?
