Hi
Would like to know if there any tips regarding the fitting of a Bar shower. The thing that I am never sure about is how much of the female thread ,where the bar is attached that you need coming out of the wall, taking into account the wall is going to be tiled, It is always a bit of guess work, I know it does give you measurements in the fitting instruction but I still find it a bit touch and go , It is either a bit tight to get the spanner in or it shows a bit of the the female coming out of the wall.
Regards

Ensure you first fix has:

Good length of pipe coming out through the wall (around 150-200mm) and white plastic stop ends on pipe ends so a poke in the eye isn't too painful.
Before fitting plastic stop ends, fit an isolating valve on each pipe and test pipework for leaks (and bucket so you can flush out flux and stuff from pipework.
Good and sturdy pipework that won't move - ie copper and well clipped.

Coming out at bang on 150mm apart.
Coming out at about 1200mm from shower tray.
Coming out at bang on horizontal.
Pipes coming out dead straight and parallel with each other.
All this can be quite time consuming.

Sometimes a pushfit connection on the vertical pipe can help as you can swivel the pipes (which will be fixed straight when you attach shower.

Then, if you can, a dry run with Z-pieces (yuk!) and loads of measuring and checking.
Check instructions.
Another dry run and final check of measurements.
Then subtraction as necessary, but taking into account depth of tiles (usually 6mm) plus 2-3mm for tile cement.

Be generous when cutting holes in tiles for pipework and nuts. Remember the chrome shrouds will cover these holes.

In practise, I attach shrouds to Z-pieces and screw these on to shower bar. Then I get a tile and put shrouds against tile and compare my measurements with those in the instructions - usually you have about 5mm to play with so you don't need to over-engineer your plumbing.

Time, patience and concentration will give you a good result and your next shower will be a piece of cake.
