Barrier Pipe. Polybutylene or PEX?

Hi there,

Does anyone have any idea which is the best barrier pipe to use? Polybutylene or PEX?

I would be looking at the fittings for each type and brand of pipe as well as the pipe itself.

I would also look at the cost of the fittings for each type of pipe.

It may make you decision easier or more comfortable

Also depends on what you are using it for, and where. You can buy cheap PEX cheaper than you can buy cheap PB, but it can be a pig to work with, particularly when it wants to return to its coiled shape. PB is usually easier to handle in that respect.

Always prefer working with pb as is on the whole more willing to stay where you put it and I think it may even tollerate slightly tighter bend radiuses. However I am certain there were at one times limitations on the use of pb for pottable or central heating cant remember which. I think to do with its permeability despite being a barrier pipe. You should check the specs the manufacturer of either pb or pex that you chose to see what there limitations are. This will make it clear which is better for your intended use.
