Bath Taps

Hi this is my first time so please be gentle, a lady has asked me to change her bath taps, but the bath is so close to the wall that I cant get my hand up there to get the old taps off, is there any easy way to get them off from the top or do I have to take the bath right out, sorry for being a plonker. Thanks for any help

They're expensive (nearly £50) but jaw droppers are good (from Screwfix and plumbing merchants).

Can you get the pipes off and get a long box spanner onto the backnut?

Grind off taps from top of bath 🙂

Grind through tap about 5mm above base,then grind downwards ,grinding out stem through bath,this gives you a bit of protection of bath by 5mm bottom tap outer body

cut the pies of and prepare to put flexi on.
take of pipe tails we crow foot.
get a deep 3/4 socket and extension, ratchet drive the back nuts off.
refit new to flexi's.
if you cant get the socket on then the tap must be mounted in the tiles?
its simples called engineering.

If the backnuts are stuck on with boss white your only real option is to cut off the taps from above - angle grinder best but be careful not to mark the bath. Alternatively saw them off near the bottom and drill out with a 20mm drill bit.

i tend to cut of the tap above the flange and cut vertically down the bore with a hack saw blade

If you find you need to do this on a regular basis I suggest you invest in a 10-20mm taper reamer. Takes no time at all - you simply saw off the tap about 5mm above the bath, then use the reamer down the hole to widen the hole until it cuts through to the bath and the tap bottom falls out.

When you put the new taps on, fit them up with Hep20 / Speedfit tap connectors and push fit pipework and fittings as this is easiest in a confined space.
