Hi,
I have the unfortunate pleasure of having a 105e fitted to our house. Every year i seem to spend around £100 on it to get it working. Well this year has been no exception and i am now at my witts end.
Earlier in the year i had no hot water and no heating at all and fault lights all over the place. On the advice of a gas safe friend of mine i purchased a new PCB (ouch) and installed it. That was back in November 2009 and all has been fine until the last couple of weeks. Now the heating turns on for about 10mins and then shuts down. I did the normal test of turning the thermostat on the boiler up to full and seeing if it would refire to no avail. I therefore, wrongly, assumed that it was the heating temperature sensor which was faulty. Replaced that - no joy! Must be one of the micro switches then - replaced that - no joy! What can it be? I have noticed that since changing th pcb the hot water also reaches a temperature and switches off for a second or 2 and then re fires. Please help. I'm thinking of chucking the thing out of the window only it's too big!

When heating goes off ,how do you get back on,sounds like not going to low flame, maybe gas pressures to high and modulation requires adjusting
Or you could have a good old fashioned blockage in boiler restricting flow
Think it may be time to get your gas safe friend in 🙁

totally agree with what puddle has said, only its no wonder you are spending money you dont need to when you throw parts at it without having a clue what your doing, i have 150 of these boilers fitted they are very reliable, dirt in the system is any combis biggest problem, get some one in who knows how to fix it,have you had it serviced ?because as you have been advised could just be gas presures

I have had it serviced every year by a corgi/gas safe registered engineer and the only thing that i have done to the boiler is the PCB and the microswitches. Reason being that your gas safe registered peolpe wanted to charge me over £150 for a PCB (not including fitting) which i managed to pick up for £75. Talk about a mark up. And that was the cheapest quote i had. I'm also not sure that it is gas pressure as the diverter seems to be sticking on in the hot water position so i am now self diagnosing it as the diaphram within the diverter. Don't need to be gas safe registered to look at that part of the boiler.
Hate to say it but just because someone is gas safe registered doesn't mean they know what they are doing and i am sure that any engineer would have gone through the same process as i have but would have charged me for 3 call out fees at £75 a pop. I come across gas safe registered engineers in my line of work all the time and some of the standards i see are shocking. But then that's the problem with self certification schemes across the industry - not just plumbing.

err gas engineers dont certify themselves why not have a go you clearly know everything
hate people come on here want advise to diy their boiler and then seek to label enginners as thick greedy rip off merchants
fix your own boiler mate

Thank you for rant,I hope you feel better for it
All that I suggested was that seeing how you had a friend who is gas safe and he advised you to replace pcb before maybe it is time to ask him round as it seems he knows boiler and you seem to be at stage were you are replacing parts not required and no I would not have done the same as you and by the way your knowledge of the diverter valve is incorrect also ,this is not being caused by faulty diagram
More importantly you still have not responded to my question about how heating comes back on or after how long
Anyway you have made in clear what you think of use, nothing like cutting off your nose to spite your face, hope you get sorted out

I admit that my rant was a little over the top.
Sorry if caused offence to anyone.
I am getting my mate round to look at it as you are right - my limited knowledge is not finding the problem. However, i have to say that the boiler has been nothing but trouble since we moved in. it was fitted by a corgi engineer yet the flue terminal is within 100mm of an opening window, the boiler controls can be reached from teh bath and not within a cupboard. That is what i mean about self certification.
Once agin sorry for any offence. I do think it is noble of your guys giving free advice in the manner that you do. I dof my hat to you all!

if those dimensions are true then that boiler is at the least ar poss id and i would have no hesitation in reporting the installation engineer
engineers are all accessed and certified independantly but what you cant do is guard against sloppy workmanship and that is why i would be reporting that engineer to gas safe
i doubt he flushed the system correctly and as such its poss there is scale/blockage causing boiler to shut down
as a side note you gsr friend by not shutting this boiler down has now made himself liable in the event of a problem as gsr are responsible even if not doing work they have a responsibility to report violations
