Hey all

went out to this boiler today and found fan to be cream crackered. Replaced at disgusting price it was and boiler up and running fine.

when i got there the chap showed me a video of it clicking i said ill have a look when its up and running.
It was up and running fine and didnt do it, until an hour after i left.

its too loud to be ignition (closed chamber etc) i once heard a combi doing it but it was buggered and got replaced.
Does anyone know what it could be? I dont know if it was lit or trying to light as he text me it, sorry if its not enough info.
if anyone has experienced the same then its worth an ask!

cheers fellas

Might have been the fan impeller catching on the housing, or the PCB starting to die.....

Hey thanks for reply. I replaced the fan and it was all clear around it etc and it did it again after i left so i doubt it can be the fan. The clicking sounds almost like hitting the boiler/pipe with a screwdriver or something gently.

Hope its not the pcb after hitting him with that bill! If it is pcb failing how/what makes the clicking? Sorry im not a veteran im new ish

A quick look on google & it seems a common fault to have clicking pcbs... Dry joints on board etc... A fan & pcb, the custard should have changed the boiler lol!

These have a main PCB and an ignition PCB, it will be the ignition PCB as I had same fault a few months back, the clicking is really loud and very easy to trace to the black relay, it might have been grey tho can't remember.

Brilliant, thankyou for your help mate, really appreciate it! Im back there in the morning to hear it in real life ( didnt do it while i was there) , seems like he should have changed the boiler lol

Yeah the clicking on his video sounded really loud thats what made me think about what it could be! (Not heard anything like it before, im a noob)

Ill report back, out of curiosity what do you guys charge for this? I know it's personal but i always question if im charging enough, only £60 to fit fan

They have updated the ignition PCB now so the new one will look different so do t be alarmed.

I think I undercharge myself to be fair as I'm about the same as you but I add some on the part and make it up that way

Think they combined the ignition PCB with the main PCB on this model come to think of it so just replace that

Some parts are so expensive these days there's no room to mark up as the custard thinks there getting shafted already! I often look on google & see stiff cheaper than my merchants 🙁

I agree, there is many occasions when I feel guilty and don't mark up because as you said some parts are so expensive

Solo 2 & 3 has a single PCB, always has done. They were modified a while back though, I think you can tell which is which due to the colour of the LED's on the front.

Been there... It was pcb. It was kind of arcing out. The burner light was flashing on and off with each arc sound. When i pressed on pcb casing it stopped. I took it apart and nothing inside was loose. The top was however smashed (plastic casing top) ?!

The casing gets very brittle due to the heat from the heat exchanger, can be replaced but not always worth it on a boiler that's over 10 years old. If you go back it's always putting your FGA on the boiler, some of the s=solo 2/3 run very high with regards to CO.....

Just out of interest, did you change the white rubber turret gasket when you did the fan?
