I happened to sit my first CCN1 etc last week and there was a candidate who was currently a building surveyor. He had received one days in house training, on pipe bending, soldering, and pipe sizing. He then could sit his CCN1 assessment because the industry "UKAS" deemed it ok because he had "transferable skills". He passed, and is now a GAS SAFE engineer.

How the hell does he know what to do if a customer asks, how to change a plated heat exchanger for example or I've got a leak, on how to drain down, what controls to turn off.

I think it's utterly ridiculous the system is like this and that these candidates can be registered like this, or in such a short space of time.

plate heat exchanger would be something you find in a boiler. 🙂 Chill and be happy in the knowledge you can earn a living, he still can't

He must have some sort of previous qualifications that allow upskilling or perhaps a degree in emgineering of sorts.
Its complicated and i dont necessarily agree with it. But hey-ho
..thats the way it is.

Hi I'm new to the forum and Ilive in NOrth London and I wondered if anyone could please advise on gas safe courses. I currently work as a plumber but wish to become gas safe registered.
Can anyone please help with recommended courses

Your best bet is to shadow a GSR for a while, build up skills and experience before going for ACS training. The course will make much more sense and you'll get a lot more out of it that way.
