I had a call from a customer a few weeks back saying he had blue water coming out of his taps. I thought the bloke was taking the p! He said I had to see it you won't believe yer eyes!

Well blue was an under statement!!

I could only put it down to electrolysis. I completely changed the water twice over and its never come back. Does anybody else have any ideas?

The system hasn't been touched for years and nobody did any work on it at all. Maybe gunge in to bottom of the tank? Nothing was disturbed though?

Is that blue water coming from the hot pipework only?
It's just that I see similar colour of water lying in the bottom of copper cylinders that have aluminium anodes fixed to a spike inside their base & have fallen into the bottom of the base & caused copper corrosion.

Yeah the hot only Best. The tank must be 15 odd years old easily, not sure if it has an anode though.

Maybe time for a new copper cylinder! Blue water from copper is basically rusty water.
A lot of new cylinders last 25 years were fitted with anodes. Seemed to be the norm with all cylinder manufacturers. New houses were having them leak from their base often in 4 to 7 years I found. Newest I replaced was only 2 years old. I replaced them with cylinders without anodes.
Could just be the water harsh in your area of course, & 15 years is a reasonable life for cylinders in many areas.
