Just when i thought the advice i was given worked my boiler system has really done some strange things. On the odd occasion there is a pipe banging and some other strange noises which usually ends up with the boiler switching itself off and the red led stays on (the flue fan runs continous) then this weekend the heating came on, this was strange as the digical tempature controller was set to 6 deg. what made it worse was when i switched the heating switch to off but the boiler carried on heating the reads, we had to open the windows and turn the thermostat valves off to try and stop the whole house baking. Finally i moved the hot water switch to standby and the system went off.

The following day i moved the hot water switch to normal and the system is working again (without the heating coming on). Thsi has happened a few times. Help anyone could it be the heating sensor by any chance?

Is it the pump?

The banging noise usually means no circulation, the boiler overheats and then the overheat stat is cutting in shutting the boiler off.

What boiler is it? Usually its a Potterton Profile or some other name then 100E.

Just a quick guess!

Hi Bernie2
Its a potterton 100e boiler

How do i check the pump, when the heating is on the rads get hot quite quickly. Yesterday when the red light came on i checked the pressure and found it had dropped below 1 bar, I increased the pressure and reset the boiler. Thsi morning it was off again and the red light was on. i checked the pressure and it was down below 1 bar again. up until now if i have found the pressure low and adjusted it to 1.5bar it seems to stay there. What a nightmare, my boiler is in the roof so its up and down the steps every day at the moment. Steve
