Hi all, got a boss strap fitted to a horizontal soil pipe, its not sealed properly and its being a bugger to seal. i managed to rip it off first time round to try and re-fix it with solvent weld but the damn thing wouldnt stop dripping thus wetting the joining surfaces equalling a bad joint, i left the damn thing for an hour before i tried to fit it and it was still dripping, i have heard of a silicon type stuff used on guttering for leaks. is there such a thing? and if so can it be used on soil pipe?

its a tiny leak maybe 20 drips per use of the basin but its not something i would leave like it is. anyone got any ideas?

as a last resort i might end up cutting the section of soil pipe out and re do the damn thing but i have a feeling it will happen again due to the dripping pipe, never had one leak on me before lol.

cut out section of pipe replace with a pipe piece(a fitting that that looks like a long straight connector/socket that has a pre formed boos on it, availiable in 1,1/4" 1,1/2" 2"

leakylea dont spose you can show me a picture lol, never heard of one of these fittings, wouldnt i still have the same ending with the constant dripping of the waste pipe? as solvend weld + wet surface = no seal???

like you say solvent and water wont seal.
stupid thing to say is why not get rid of the water, rip the boss off, try again with no water. if your not being watched a hair drier is always good for drying off and if you are being watched a professional hot air blower ( paint stripper type )
TANGIT is a very good sovent to use.
the more professional way to solve the problem is without the boss and as obseen16 says use a different fitting, tho if you have water, it wont make much difference in this case!!
good luck
