I've been asked to quote for fitting TRVs to 9 radiators to a pumped system. Two rads are conventional but the remainder are fitted with unusual rad valves i've never seen! They have both (microbore) pipes goes to a single valve at one of the bottom corners, (the other end is capped off.)
I assume I could remove the unusual rad valve and cap and modify pipes for conventional TRV and lockshield at opposite ends. Has anyone done this before or are there unforeseen problems ahead?
Does anyone know what type of valves these were called and how they provide circulation in the radiators?

they are called twin entry valves. the pictures already supplied show very clearly how they work.
the pipes are flow and return so there would be no need to "cap" either pipe, just re route one to the opposite end.

sorry just realised when yo use the word cap you are probably referring to removing the plug in the opposite end.

you will probably find that this system is 8mm micro to and from a manifold usually located beneath floorboards on landing or in bedroom above/below boiler location. if the system is open vented bang a strong cleaner in it first because a drain down can cause blockages on the small bore pipes from 1st floor to ground. even so you could still end up with a nightmare so price accordingly. if its a sealed system you could still end up in same position if it was not correctly flushed when it was swapped over, (most of these valves where fitted before combi's became widespread)

might be worth explaining the potential issues with custard and giving a seperate price for a 15mm repipe

yes basically but you need to re pipe one side

Yeah thats all i was gonna do swing one pipe under the rad and into the new lockshield. Custard says can u not just leave em alone

Yes if you make them aware that they don't meet current building regs and could blow at any time under the pressure of a combi. I've had some blow and some hold, put it in writing to cover your self.
