Lots of news and talk today on twitter on the firing of the British Gas Engineers. What are people's thoughts? From an outsider looking in I think many might have a different perspective to what the BG engineers had.

I think a lot of new businesses will be popping all over the place because of it, and all the best to them.

Kept in the Access Only bit, for engineers discussion only 😛

I’m surprised BG didn’t cave into the strike as they couldn’t and still can’t get to paying customers.

Do you think they've had it too good for too long? It has to stop somewhere, I think that's the view BG had. I suspect many might get a shock when it comes to running your own firm..

Centrica have been losing money hand over fist for years and this appears to be yet another crude attempt at a little belt tightening. Having said that the new conditions have been agreed by the other trade unions and they don't seem too offensive if I've read it correctly...an extra three hours a week and the same rate of pay for weekend and public holiday work.

They’ve been cushy for a while you will find it’s the old boys that haven’t re upped due to them not wanting to do extra

Like a lot of the general public, I thought BG were the bees knees, and really wanted a job with them when I first started my apprenticeship. It seems however the training now doesn’t really happen, they are just poke and go when it comes to “servicing”, and they need to sell, all this kpi S#%*# does my head in. Glad I didn’t apply for a job with them recently (within last 4 years).

I feel sorry for the BG engineers. They are no longer tradesmen but salesmen. They have targets for everything. They are given too much work and not enough time. That's why they always condemn boilers or say they are obsolete.

But,

I love to quote against them......

Yeah. On two jobs we were more expensive believe it or not by about £50 on each. They were pricing keenly at the time, that's about 18 months ago.
Damn. When it's that close then most people would probably go with BG. Their reputation carries a lot of respect.

But the crap work i have seen and heard about them.......permanent live and switched live linked.....bad flue dripping condensate onto a gas pipe.....so many boilers 'obsolete'......
