Hi

I have just noticed brown lines on my kitchen ceiling. They are not wet or damp too touch this is the 1st time I've noticed them. I have checked other ceilings nothing. The shower is above the kitchen. Hoping it's not a leak.

Now I had a plumber out before christmas doing some work. One was when the washing machine is on there is a banging when it's filling. He changed pressure or something. Seemed to quieten it for a while. But has come back as loud even when using up stairs tap or flushing toilet in last couple of weeks.

Sorry for stupid questions this is not my area and have no family to ask for advice. I have reached out to plumber no answer. Left message to call asap. Don't know if I should call home insurance. Don't want the ceiling collapsing in on us. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Could be an old stain thats bleed through the paint if its paint thats water based or you have a leak or had a leak.
Thanks for replying.

Anyway of telling which it is?

It is below the shower and strange how it seems to run in a pattern that would match the joists.

I assume I would be best to call a plumber out asap.

If it's shower leak, are they usually big jobs or fixable that day?

Thanks again Pete

Should also say we have been in the house for 2.5 years

Definitely looks like a water leak above, the adhesive on the plasterboard joints tape is probably stopping the water come through.
It's quite possible you would see the leak(s) if you or the plumber took out the spotlights in and around where the stain is.

Thanks. Yea feel like it's a leak. Re taking out the spotlights. How easy is it to do that? Ie could an amateur like myself do it safely? Thanks
