Hi

Recently had new boiler fitted plus some new rads as part of house renovation. Had BG round for annual service and they reckon the system is sludged up. Guy bled one radiator and some black liquid came out. They want £700+ for Powerflush. System working OK at moment though.

Builder refuses to come back so after some web research I thought I would put Sentinel X400 in as a precaution, drain in a week and add inhibitor.

Got X400 rapid dose which comes with a connector kit so you can inject it via rad bleed valve (tried to insert URL but site won't let me).

The instructions say "remove bleed pin". I took this to mean use a bleed key to remove screw in bleed valve I.e. as if you were bleeding the radiator but keep going until screw comes out altogether.

However, have tried on 2 rads and screw unscrews only so far and then it keeps turning indefinitely but won't come out. It's driving me mad, please help!

Sorry for long post and thanks for your help.

Yes you are right in saying this, so is your system sealed? If not why not just put it in the header tank. If it is sealed do
your radiators have the 1/2 vent plugs/caps in the top? If they do turn off both rad valves, get a bowl and put it under your
valve, crack the nut/union between the rad and valve and drain the water out of the rad, once drained tighten the nut/union
back up, undo the 1/2" vent/plug/cap atr the top of the rad and squirt you inhibitor/cleaner into the rad, tighten up and
open your rad valves. If the system is sealed you will have to top up the pressure..... I hope that makes sense?

really! you wouldnt think that it needed it/??lol

you dont take the nipple out, you take out the thing it goes into. if they are old rads then be carefull!!

this bit, the vent plug.....

£700 for a powerflush! Lucky if I can get my customers to pay 1/2 that amount for one. Where do you live? Maybe I ought to try getting some work round your way if everyone's loaded there!

much better to put it into filling loop with a garden sprayer with a 10mm by 15mm fitting and pump it in if it is a sealed system.
Seen this before with bg the very top of the rad where the valve is frequently gets a black bit of water when you first open it up because it is in the dead part of the system for circulation. Its an excuse to give a powerflush. You need to drain more off to see the condition of the water, preferably at a drain off point.

you cant judge a system on the little water you get out when venting the rads. Most rads will give some dirty water out the vent when bled. If you want to get a powerflush you should look at a local engineer which should see you pay around 50% of what BG have quoted.
