Had a landlord phone me saying tenant is complaining of cost of gas saying 40 quid a week and its only on hour or two a night.

Gonna check for gas leaks etc first but also wandering as they are on card meter can these things go faulty ?

Normally there's a debt from unpaid gas bills and the supplier takes this debt back in smaller amounts from the card meter.

If it's a new tenant might need to check that the previous occupier didn't run up a big debt.

Tenant been there few months , i done a landlord check few months ago and all was fine but they are constantly kicking off over gas cost saying 40 quid a week .

All sounds odd

What gas appliances are they using ? and how long for ? if they have come from a property with standard meter then they will notice a difference, you pay more for gas on a card meter, will landlord let them replace meter for standard one ??

Totally agree I was working at a property where the previous owner had managed to rack up a debt of about 850 quid. God knows how! But for every £20 that I put on they took back 10

Get them to ring up the supplier and ask for a change of tenancy on the meter. Someone will come out and reset it and clear any debt if there is any.
You can set a card meter to charge whatever you (they) like and also set it to tick away at the money even when its not being used.
