Close shave this morning. Been laid up since Tuesday night, 'man flu', taking beechams, lemsip, cough medicine etc etc trying to get it cleared up for back to work tomorrow. Slept on the couch for the third night running so as not to disturb the missus. Woke up just before 5 and my ear was sore, right I thought, rooted through the cupboard and found some antibiotics I had from April 2010 when I poked a screwdriver through my hand and it became infected. Dropped one of them, laid back on the couch, sorted! 15 minutes later my tongue is itching, then my hands, then my feet and then my lips go numb. Red as a cooked lobster and the breathing not too good, thought my end was nigh. Phoned 999, ambulance pulled up to the door just as the call ended. Paramedics give me two shots as the wife, totally unaware of whats going on comes down the stairs, and they explain it's off to hospital for some iv piriton. She doesn't know wether to cry or slap me for not waking her up. So couple hours later after some more drugs and tests it's back home fit and wellish. Turns out I have a bad throat infection and not the old 'man flu'.

So the main event was a severe allergic reaction to the antibiotics from 2010, that where still in date, and I had taken with no issues before. Putting this on top of never being allergic to anything previously it was all a bit of a shock. Won't be doing that again in a hurry.

Moral of the story, dump all your old medicines 🙂 🙂 🙂

Pleased you are ok Simon

But get ready for another telling off

If you are given a course of Antibiotics ,it is very important you finish the course even if you are feeling better and clearly if you had some left over, you did not !! bad lad

In future if you put a screwdriver through your hand or some other minor injury and get given a course of Antibiotics and things look good before course is over, maybe pick at the scab to inflame at bit or rub in a bit of powerflux ,to give you incentive to carry on popping the bills :freak::arabia:

An allergic reaction can be very frightening we found out my wife was allergic to penicillin after she cut her hand on some rusty metal
At first she thought it was the new soap powder as it started with her hands itching within 20 mins she was swelling before my eyes lips fingers eyes ankles knees if it hadnt been so frightening it would have been like watching a cartoon where the bumps pop up after the anvils landed on their head it realy was that fast

I hope it was sorted as quickly as it was for me this morning.

Hope you are lots better Simon,me and the Mrs cleared out the Medicine cupboard as it had become a health hazard in its own right pills and potions falling out every time we opened the door found some stuff dated back to 2005 bagged it all up and took to local chemists who were happy to dispose of it .regards turnpin:thinking:

scary mate, im off to clear out old meds

i had a severe headache once when working away from home, i was staying in the family caravan. i said to my mate at lunch time i gota go back my head hurts that much, thought it was a migrane. a day later i couldnt move my head 2mm without extreme pain, i only had the dregs of meds in the caravan, a lemsip, some anti inflammatory, what ever i found i took. my wife came down and phoned the doctor who asked what i had taken, it was embarrassing reeling off this mix of meds. i go the local docs who says its not a migraine as they last a day, this is a stress headache and can last longer. it lasted a week, i used to laugh at people for missing work due to a headache, i didnt get paid and wasnt at home

I know it's no fun being bad when you're at home, but being away is a nightmare. The wife gets stress headaches, nothing to do with me (honest), she has one of them wheat packs you warm up in the microwave and puts it across the top of her neck, works a treat.

luckily i havnt had one since but will bare that in mind thanks. odd to have a headache last a week, it was soo painful. i alwase i get ill, nothing worse than having to go out when illays try to keep some paracetamol at home now inc

When I travel to the odd place where getting hold of drugs is an issue, I normally take my own. I normally travel with two broad spectrum anti biotics, amoxycillin and ciprofloxin. On my last trip I also took acetazolomide. Luckily I have a good friend whose a chemist so I check with him what mixes well and the ones that can't be taken together.

This may seem foolish but in a lot of places I travel you can get access to a doctor but not the drugs. I even take my own syringes with me, I've been to own country where the doctor turned up to see a friend of ours had the drugs required but a carrier bag full of syringes........
