Hi All

First time on the forum, and I would like some advice, please.

I have a cistern with a side inlet valve (Fordham I think) that has worn out and needs replacing. I would prefer to replace it with a modern, quiet type, e.g. Flushmaster. The problem is the current valve is 22mm and all the modern quiet sort appear to be 1/2". Is it possible to fit the 1/2" type to the existing 22mm inlet supply using an adaptor?

If the above is not possible I would need to get a replacement ball-cock type, and I am being confused by the terms "part one" and "part two" etc. If I have understood correctly, a toilet cistern should be "part two", the problem I have is when I search for part two, l only see 1/2"

Any advice offered will be gratefully received

Thank you in advance

Are you sure the pipe feeding the cistern is 22mm?
That would be highly unlikely.
You would be best using a part 2 valve as it is all brass, but that's if it fits and doesn't snag on the syphon.
The part 2 valve is for high pressure and comes with a fine nozzle inside it, but if you have low pressure or gravity low pressure then the nozzle part can be replaced with a low pressure red one.
The part 1 old design valves are high pressure only and differently made and not supposed to be fitted on mains water. The part 2 valves have a plastic top water outlet.
If you have 22mm pipework you will be able to get an adaptor for the 1/2" tail to go to 22mm - a tap fitting

Thank you for the prompt reply.

The reason I think it is 22mm is when I put an adjustable spanner over the inlet thread the gap in the spanner is 22mm. I know that's not that accurate perhaps, but it does show it's a lot larger than 1/2". How can I check for sure? Access is a little difficult as it is a concealed cistern.

The valve I have at the moment looks like a part two (plastic bit on top) - brass valve and nylon arm with forked end to put ball left or right. Is it possible to still get something like this?

Thank again

The simplest part 2; http://www.NoLinkingToThis/p/pegler-float-valve-part-2/27627

Is this in a WC cistern or storage tank?

Joni os Thank you

The comments from "Best" made want to delve a bit deeper, and l found the following: I removed the lagging from the inlet pipe and found it is indeed 15mm/1/2" but it goes onto a, what looks like, 22mm male nylon thread which leads to the valve.

So is it possible that the nylon thread which you suggest may be the outer thread of a 15mm male connector has a 15mm female inner thread on the valve side. Therefore, is it possible the new valve would fit without modification?

I hope You have been able understand what I have been trying to say

Thanks again

What you should be able to see is similar to this;

For a WC depending on space available you can use something like this, note Brass tail, nylon ones can easily be cross threaded;

Yes that's what I see. But it goes onto a nylon thread that measures 21/22mm. What will be on the other end? Could it be a female 1/2" that would take the new valve.

Thanks

Unlike other sizes, 15mm compression nut is actually 1/2" BSP thread. If you are joining to a brass fitting. get replacement valve with brass tail. Brass nut on nylon thread is not recommended.

Thanks to all who helped me.

I'll take the bull by the horns and take the old valve off and see what lies within
