Check that the old pipework doesn't have a red line running down through it.. There was a large batch of pipe manufactured with red line about 30 years ago that was prone for pin holes... They fitted it through out Derriford Hospital in Plymouth and had to rip the whole lot out again. Cost them 100s of thousands. I've come across it several times myself..

you refer them back to your quote/estimate warning of leak potential and how its an extra should one occur.

Hi all

Where do you stand if you connect to existing pipes, you pressure test it, all ok, and a week later it pin holes?

Probably on a squelchy carpet> IT happens but as said if you are wise its not your problem!

Thanks all, it's not happened, just currently on a conversion with reeeeeally old pipework that I don't like the look of. I already had the conversation with the customer at the quote stage and they opted to try the old pipework first, to hopefully cut costs. I will definately get it in writing for my quotes from now on though!

Don't worry about it.
95% of "old" pipework will see you out  but there is always the odd one that won't. You'll learn what to look for.

I'd be more worried about connecting onto newer pipework with plastic fantastic hidden under the floorboards.

lol although having said that I've probably replaced 20-30 something unvented cylinders this year so far in new builds that have leaked. They've been fitted to plastic pipe, which was fine, the stainless steel factory tested lifetime guaranteed cylinder, was not. IMHO plastic isn't all that bad if fitted correctly, baring in mind it should be supported every 0.X metres but barely ever is...I don't use plastic typically, just saying 🙂

Just an update, yeah.....so.....CW pipe pin holed in 3 places under a heavy a$$ metal bath, pipes straight down into floor. I had to repipe the entire cold and hot in the end. Nightmare of a job
