hi

can you install a combi boiler with an unvented cylinder using "s" plan or "y" plan set up. or would it be better to just add a system boiler with unvented cylinder?

yes you can, but why would you want to??

If you had a combi and then extended the house and fitted another bathroom and shower room but the boiler is still big enough for your heating requirements...or if you are feed up with your poor flow from a combi

when vaillant first tested there unvented cylinders all the reps had them fitted with combis
combis were a lot cheaper than system boilers at one time and i fitted loads like this often with the combi connected to the kitchen or to one shower as you can avoid heating the cylinder at times while still having some hot water

okay, point taken by the pair of you.

does still seem like a repair to a problem, and not a solution?

your point taken aboard and registered in my brain though.

A combi`s cold feed fed by a unvented cylinder that is heated by solar is quite common. a bit of valve control and temp control takes a bit of settin up but depends what the op is refering to

Hi, I recall using this design. Where an office with hot water demand for only sink unit and basin in wc was served via the combi and the heating circuit was serving a large unvented to run a couple of shower, there use being seasonal.(Boat club) It seemed to make sense when related to fuel cost
