Has anyone come across this before?
There is a gas header with a permenamt purge point/flare off.

Not one that's been left fixed in line , seen ones where you would need to put a section of pipe in
 
That would be in my book classed as ID.

I wouldn't leave an open end

The reason for the union after the valve is so it can be disconnected and capped
 
It had a lockable valve but yes an open end. Been in for years I would have thought.
Its getting taken out tomorrow.
 
I like that! Ha ha! Not that you ever really need it. But you could just undo the union, plug the lever valve and leave it in. Save the hassle of cutting it all out, the scrap won't be worth that much.
 
The gas header it comes from is being replaced.
Someone went to a lot of effort to fit it, but why is a mystery.
